Love those 742's with the chewed up rails......Remington makes some fairly good guns....also some plain jane cheapies like the 870's.....No Remington rifle equals a Savage 99. ;D

;D this is a fun thread, at least there is an answer for everything...while I like my 3 model 99's, they would go long before my best Remingtons...infact cross my palm with enough $$$ and they are yours.......

I love Remington products.  That includes Marlin & H&R.  I buy new ones and examine many of them on the shelf.  The quality is very very high and it always has been.  The Model 700 is the best centerfire boltgun made and the 870 cannot be beat at any price.  I'm glad Remington bought up a bunch of companies and I wish they'd move them all down south.  We like jobs, do good work, and only ask for a fair wage.

There are no (and never have been) any quality issues.  I'll keep buying Remington, Marlins, and H&R products because they have no equals.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't NEF importing Pardner Pump shotguns from China?
And Remington owns Marlin, NEF and H&R?

This is from the H&R site...
"In November of 2000, the Marlin Firearms Company purchased the assets of H&R 1871, Inc. Marketing its products under the brand names of Harrington & Richardson® and New England Firearms®, H&R 1871, LLC is currently the largest manufacturer of single shot shotguns and rifles in the world."

Now I live in the South and work in a machine shop, and it's true we need jobs, it's true we could do as good or better job making them than any yankee shop.  But yankees are Americans last I checked, and I wouldn't want to take their jobs and put fellow Americans out of work.

I like Remington products, too.  Just bought an older 870, and 700's are at the top of my list.  Designed by Americans, and American quality can be the best in the world.
But I see a lot of American firearms and optics companies beginning to import from China, Remington is not alone in that, Ruger imports Chinese air rifles, and some Leupold products are coming from China too.
That's hurting American jobs, and we should let these companies know we don't like it.

Just my opinion.

NEF is importing from China.  I hope they drop the 870 knock-off.  I'd never buy one.

Looks like swampman threw a bait and got it bit good. It would seem with your opinions you are here for Our entertainment purposes only. I've asked you some pointed questions about some of your insipid statements in the past, without a response.  :-* A blanket statement is easy to defend, as this one is. You need to get out a little more, start shooting your accurate rifles with some.....friends? maybe?? Convert them over to your side and take over this site. How about "Graybeards Freedom Group Outdoors"  ;D
But in the end you are entitled to your opinion, even if you are, only giving it for enternaiment purposes, my opinion. Stop feeding him guy's, but then again, I guess, I'm not yet tired of the CRAP!  ::)  Crash87

No opinions stated.  I've just pointed out the facts.  Remington makes the best selling, most reliable. and most accurate out of the box production firearms in the world.  That has been the case for many years.  Graybeard does a fine job of running thing here and I don't think he needs anyone to take over.

Remington has made some great guns but they have also produced pure crap and left many customers out to dry....Marlins will be known as Pre-Remington like the Pre-64 Winchesters...

Remington used to make some fine products, get yourself a 25-30 year old 700 and enjoy.

I'm kind of a die-hard as well when it comes to Remingtons.  I will however, not make the same claim as Swampman that they are the most accurate out-of-the-box, cheapest, best-selling rifles that not only cure testicular cancer, but also increase your chances of winning the Powerball Lottery.

Now if Remington will only get with the times and start offering a few changes:
- 1:8 twist .223
- Heavier varmint barrels
- 5R rifling in more calibers
- Factory Manners/McMillan stock offerings
- Short action Senderos in WSM chamberings

- Big, green, "#1" foam fingers for Swampman to wave around
- T.V. commercials with Ric Flair...Whooooo!!

this is an interesting thread. sort of reminds me of school yard posturing; my dog is bigger than your dog, my dad can beat your dad, etc. almost like jamaldog, bless his sweet little heart. but what's with the north vs south talk? dividing a population whose greatest attribute is unity seems just wrong. and i like remington. sold a great m700 rifle to a friend recently, not cause it was bad but because he has wanted it for years. still have a nice m788 that shoots great. but i also got a stevens 200 that shoots 55g v-max bullets into very small groups that i appreciate equally as much. or my rem model 5 that i know remington imported cause THEY saw value in. i have a question though. reading swampman's first post i could not quite figure what crap of which he spoke. was it the marlin factory closing after all those years crap, or the cut throat i need your job economy crap, or just the common i'm bored need to rattle some dog's chain kind of crap?

I find it funny that you state you are tired of everyone bashing Remington but all you have done is Bash Savage, Winchester, and others.
If Reminton some how ended up buying Savage, or FN would the Savage 110 then become a great rifle?  Would the Winchester then be a good and accurate rifle?  And why is it not Ok for others to express their opinon about Remington but you can spout off that anything other than a Remington is not accurate, ugly, Heavy, or unreliable.
I have a friend that loves Remington and was down on his luck and bought a 770 rifle that he had nothing but problems with.
Now if it is a Remington it has to be a 700 and made before 1990 when they came out with that lemon if it is a shotgun it has to be an 870, not an express and has to be before the key lock safety.

I have a 1980 vintage 1100 that belongs on the list.  My only gripe is that 2 3/4 and 3" aren't interchangable.  But I have 2 barrels (one for each size) that cover 99% of the hunting you would ever want to do.  Very reliable, never jams, and is darn pretty to boot!

I do not know when Mine (1100) was made but I think the same thing about it.  I know my 870 was a Key safety that I prompty removed and installed another safety.  I ended up selling him my spare Rem 700 BDL in 30-06 cause he was crying that the quality was in the dumper and he wanted an earlier model.
The 1100 will handle most hunting.  But I was talking about my friend that is so narrow minded about things his scratch pads are only 1" wide.

I should give credit where credit is due.  It is a line from Red Storm Riseing by Tom Clancey.  I thought it was funny and have been using it since I read it back in the late 80's.

Anyone who has shot them all knows the worst Savage bolt action 110 will outshoot any other American bolt centerfire.  Raise your hand if you ever had the bolt handle fall off your Savage, like the Remmies do.   Plus the 110 is the only switch-barrel rifle you can buy for under $500.

We can hold the shoot-off at Swampy's place.

I miss jamaldog.  Remember when he shot 35 racoons with his pellet gun one night  in Florida?  He didn't need no stinkin' Remington, did he.

Apparently he just grew up, had a sex change operation, and poof!   He became Nazi Pelosi!~

Never had a Remington bolt fall off. Of course I don't use a 5Ib. sledge hammer to open the bolt either. To each his own but I will keep my accurate Remingtons. ;)

I'm a die hard Rem fan.  the gunsmith I use lives out in the country and it's kind of a meeting place for alot of his friends and customers and if I have nothing to do I'll stop by it's about 15 minutes from my place.  Last couple of months he's had some new Rem 700 one he installed a Sako extractor was a 223 had a problem instead of sending it back to Rem he just had the Sako put in and the other one was 700 308 with 5r Barrel chamber was cut off center again customer opt for a new barrel from kreiger instead of sending it back.  Both guys who owned those rifles were older and they didn't like having to spend that money but they did complaint all they said was acouple things need to be fixed.

If I look at the last 45yrs and how many good Rifles I've had vs ones that wouldn't shoot good I'm 90% ahead and the 10% need alittle fixing.

Make sure that you bring that stuff you must be smoking to the shoot-off.

If I were to buy a dedicated switch-barrel rifle, I'd go with a Stevens and save a few bucks (I know, Savage), or if I had the coin, an AI.

I owned a Savage 10FP in .308 for a while, and it was a pretty consistant 3/4MOA shooter at 100yds with the load that it liked.  Not bad at all IMO.  I traded it in on a Remington 700 SS 5R in .308 that turned out to be a solid .4MOA shooter at the same distance, and occasionally broke in and under the .3 mark at both 100, and 200yds.

I own a couple of other Remingtons, one is a solid 1/2MOA performer, the other was my first rifle that I ever purchased.  I also own a few other rifles from different manufacturers, and have been lucky that I've yet to get a lemon.

I may look into a Cooper after I go on this next deployment  They are an American made company (I know about their pres.) who offer a 1/2" guarantee.  I'd like to see on average how the Savage 110s compare to the Coopers if the Savages will outshoot any other American bolt centerfire.

That being said, a Savage LRPV may be in my future someday as well, I've been able to shoot a buddy's which is a solid 1/2MOA performer as well.

Jamaldog is still on every so often but he has changed his direction from trying to be a mix of Hemmingway, Capstick, and Uncle Ted Nuggent to asking about Bug out bags, riot gear, and defensive firearms.  I think something scared him.  ( he said he was at the Puplik's shooting not too long ago).

BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! ROFLMMFAO!!!!! THAT right there is a GREAT post!

I own Remington shotguns and A rifle and I must say that you are WAY off on that statement!!!!! and we can ALL SEE how Marlin is going to improve under Remington's guidance. If you wanna call closing and laying off hundreds of employees IMPROVING!!!!!

Make this Remington vs. ALL OTHER RIFLES shoot-off closer to PA. and I will GLADLY attend with my LOWLY Savage's!
