I know a lot, and I mean a lot of retired military that now live in foreign countries. Most in Mexico, then all through Southern Asia. Thailand, Viet Nam, The Philippians, Indonesia, and India. But as far as I know none have given up their citizenship.
I go and visit some of the people in Mexico. The ones that live near the coast like to fish so they do a lot of fishing, or sitting on the beach drinking beer or sun tea. One family lives in the mountains just south of Arizona. Where they live there is lots of grass and cooler temps. He goes hunting quite often, the rest of the time he sits on the veranda watching the sun come up or go down, real hard life. His wife is the one that loves horses, and that keeps her busy, and out of his hair. Both of their kids are grown and gone years ago.
One of the things they all have in common, they all live in a location where the economy is a lot lower than here in the US. They are living comfortably and in some cases well on their retirements.
