Karate Tournament
« on: March 27, 2010, 04:12:56 PM »
Hey guys as most of you know we are at a karate tournament in Baton Rogue.  I just had to share that my eldest son won 2 medals!  He placed second in sparring and WON GOLD in the forms competition!  Oh and I got third in sparring...should have been first...I had this lady beat by sixteen points and got dqed for an illegal hit.  Oh well such is life.

Cool!

I know you can hit a man in certain places and get disqualified.

What's an illegal blow to a woman, or would the blow that got you dq'ed be illegal for either sex?

I sparred in many tournaments 30 years or so ago.  I also boxed for a couple of years.

Very therapeutic for the mind, and great for the body.

Enjoy it while you can young lady!

It was a TaeKwonDo tournament.  We practice with punches to the head in testings and in class, but to keep the emphasis on legs, (TKD's trademark) we aren't allowed to punch to the head or face in competition.  Punches to the body are legal.  I punched her shoulder and the punch grazed up and brushed her headgear....twice.  ;)  It was an iffy call by the judges...coulda went either way since the hit landed on the shoulder first, but I respect the opinion of the judges, and will make sure to land my techniques lower next time.

Congrats!
Reading this brings back some fond memories.
Some painful memories but fond none the less. ;)
I boxed though and kicking is frowned upon ;)
