Ruger Single Six Question
« on: March 27, 2010, 07:25:47 PM »
I have a friend who has an older (Pre transfer bar) Single Six and it won’t fully cock if the cylinder is installed ???. When the cylinder is in the frame the hammer can’t be pulled back past the second click but if you remove the cylinder the hammer can be fully cocked with no problem. Does anyone know how to fix this? He lives in California so he doesn’t want to go through the hassle of shipping it to Ruger.

Find a local gunsmith.  Anyone who can tear down a Colt single action can tear down the Ruger.  Sounds like its in need of a hand and a bolt.

Not worth the effort.....it is hopeless....let me give you my address so you can dispose of it properly......

Send an email to Jim Henry (tccraft@earthlink.net) and explain the problem.  He would probably want to look at the gun and is in CA.  You can ship direct since he is FFL holder and Gunsmith.

I would say the cylinder latch pivot is hanging up as I went through the same thing just a few weeks ago. Opening the loading gate would depress the cylinder lock into the frame but the hammer would not.

To prove if this is true in your friends case, just have him watch what the cylinder lock does with the cylinder removed and the loading gate is open, and also trying to pull the hammer back. I am guessing that the lock will stay in the up position when he trys pulling on the hammer which would lock the cylinder up if it were in place.

In the case of my nephews SS, just a few drops of oil did the trick to free up a frozen cylinder pivot latch back in the frame.

It sounds to me like the bolt that locks the cylinder is not retracting as the hammer is pulled.  This can be caused by one of the arms of the bolt being broken.  Have you taken it apart and seen if any parts fall out?  I'd check that.  You can see if it is retracting by looking under the cylinder as it is cocked.  44 Man

Sorry I didn't get back to this post
go here then find the drop down and locate the drop down Video
all you need is a Finish nail to hold the hammer spring a screw driver
Patience and something to tap the pin/mini dowels out
be sure you write what screw comes of either side of the trigger and same near the hammer
Its so simple I can take one down and put it back in a Half hour if I rushed 10 minutes
and I only did my First this last Oct.
Good Luck the cylinder lock bolt spring is just a Push down and pull pin
reverse when you put it back
IF it Goes to easy you missed the spot and if you look a small tab will be where the Cylinder
Won't fit in the gun to get it right the first time be sure you check that area before closing it up

I can't link the exact video address Rugers page changes it somehow when I tried for my self
 so this is close  http://ruger.com/resources/videos.html

Good Luck
Tommyt

Also the center Trigger pin and a notch in it make a note which side its on as
and If I typed all this and its a 3 screw it will still work but you don't have to tap out just
Turn out  ;D
