i'm a dummy--maybe
« on: March 28, 2010, 09:29:55 PM »
i have a 45 cal huntsman that has the push in style breech plug.
the breech plug is stuck pretty good.  why not just leave it stuck and clean it like a regular front loader?

I have never heard of a push in 50cal breech plug I am pretty sure all the 50's are threaded. The plug on the left is a push in plug they came in the .45 .58 and the 12ga the one in the center is a precussion cap screw in they came in the older guns pre 1986 I know for sure the .45 and the .58  had this screw in plug not sure about the 12ga my 12 is a pop out plug. The one on the right is out of a .50 it is the only stock plug that I know of that came in the .50 it was a screw in plug that was either 5/8" or 7/8" the older 50's had the 7/8" and the newer 50's had the 5/8". Personally wheter it's a screw in or a pop in I would want it out for inspection before I shot it. Kurt

Phatinjun,
sorry , i am not the sharpest tool in the shed.  i had written 50 cal but meant 45 cal.  Post has been edited i had 50 cal. on my mind because i just won one on e-bay.  ALSO WON THREE HUNTSMAN STOCKS!
One brand new and the other two supposedly in great shape.
It didn't take much to get me addicted to these guns. the plug on the left looks most like the stuck one.
is that an o-ring on the bottom of it?

Yes it is an o ring there is also a plastic ring above that. I will take a side view picture in the morning and post it. If you take some PB blaster or similar and squirt it down the bbl let it sit upright for a day or so then take a tight fitting hardwood dowel rod say like 3/8" or as tight to the bore as you can find slip it down the bore after dumping any oil cut it off so about 2" stick out the end take another piece of flat wood place on hard surface and jam the barrel down onto the rod it should pop out. That way you will not hurt the crown as you may if you pound with a hammer or such.Just don't poke your eye out or get hit in the forehead with the flying plug. ;D Kurt

Just about any penetrating oil will do it don't take to much maybe a 1/2" to 3/4" over plug when poured inside bbl. I got called into work this morn so I will not be able to post that pic til tonight.Kurt
