Coming Home
« on: March 29, 2010, 12:59:38 AM »
I would just like to say this is a great site and a great group of people. I will be heading home this week from my one year tour in S.Korea. Thank you all for this site and giving me something to look forward to reading when I am not working. It has been a very interesting year and have learned many things. You may not realize it but just being able to chat with people who have the same interest is a real motivator when you are seperated from family and friends. So thanks for being my support group even if you dont relize it.
What did you do today...for Freedom?
Today, at the front, he died...Today, what did you do? Next time you see a list of dead and wounded, ask yourself: "What have I done for freedom? What can I do tomorrow that will save the lives of men like this and help them win the war?"
Taken from WWII poster, still applies today.

Ultra, I think it's great that you found our little group and I'm glad that we were able to be a bit of a reminder of home to you.  I too wish that you would be coming home to an America that you could be proud of, but sadly that probably isn't the case.  I still believe that this too will pass and some semblance of common sense will return, but I have always been an optimist.

Anyway, I also thank you for your service.

I was sent to Korea in 1967 on an administrative SNAFU.  This big old E7 post transportation NCO with a 45 on his hip and two MP"s put me on a plane on a Sunday in Ft Lee, Va. with no warning.  When I got there my 1st Sgt already had my orders cut to come back.  I was at I Corps repo depot less than 48 hrs and got stuffed on another plane stateside.  Kimchee Squat hit me about 30,000 feet an hour after boarding.  As this was in mid winter I didn't mind coming back.

I'm glad your'e back in the land of the land of the round door knob.

Thank you for serving. My dad served there during the Korean war in 52-53. He was in the signal corps. My sister served there as well and met my brother-in-law there. Glad you are coming home. Enjoy your bear hunt. I'm sure you were dreaming of that your entire tour. Steve
