Bushnell Elite, I finally found a flaw.....
« on: November 15, 2003, 11:45:31 AM »
I am using a 3200 on my Ultra-Mag, they are excellent, and definately hold up to the magnum re-coil but....everything has a flaw I guess.  I have a real nice cut in my forehead and I am always carefull.  I have gotten hit with my old scope before with the Ultra, but thought I had enough eye relief with this one so that iy wouldn't be a problem.  Ouch!  The back rim on these is REALY HARD and it is very thin.  It would be a great improvement on these scopes to give it a softer eyepeice and it could possibly be a perfect scope.

Uh Robert, just a suggestion here. Have ya ever thought about just buying a .30-06 or .270 Win. or my favorite the 7-08 and using it? Doesn't everything the heavy kickers do just as well on 99.44% of the shots anyone has any business taking.    :D

35 Whelen Ackley is on the way....but I love shooting this Ultra-Mag...after you get hit in the head a few times, you get a little punch-drunk and it dosen't bother you as much after that.  Don't get me wrong...I LOVE the Elite scope...now if only I could get an Elk in the crosshairs....

Robert,

Which Ultra Mag do you have?  I have a Remington BDL SS in 7mm Ultra Mag.

I have an Elite 4200 4x-16x-50mm mounted on it.  Despite the sharp recoil (I have often said that it strikes like a COBRA), the scope never hit me.  I don't know how much eye relief your particular Elite 3200 has, but my scope has 3.6 inches.

Come to think of it, I don't remember what the back eyepiece looks like.  I think that my Nikon Monarchs have a wide, soft, rubber ring around the rear eyepiece.  It would be nice if ALL big game scopes had such parts.

I think I have found a flaw in my 3-9X40 3200 elite also. The first time I cleaned my muzzleloader and ran hot water down the barrel in the shower, I was amazed the scope didn't fog up on the outside lens. The second time I did this, it not only fogged up on the outside but also the inside. It is still clear but I think the "rain guard" has some how worn off and I might have a leak. I will hunt the rest of the year and see how it goes. This is the only time it has been a worry but it still may be OK. Don

But what in hell are you doing taking a shower with your rifle?  That is taking 'GUN NUT' to a new level.

Robert, you got me but how did you know I use Irish spring. I think it smells better and leaves the metal on my guns softer  . I only run hot water down the barrel to get it hot so it dries completely. The steam is what fogs up the scope. Don
