BISLEY IN .45 LC

After a very long hiatus, I'm back in the game, the SA revolver game.  Recently acquired a stainless New Model Blackhawk Bisley, 5 1/2", in 45 LC.  It was real dirty but no appearant blemishes.  Cleaned it up and began to measure.  The cyl throats are small, .449 and the forcing cone could use some polishing. Seems to time just right and has a very tight bbl /cyl gap.  I don't have a feeler gauge that small!!  I gave $350.  I didn't get burned did I ?    ;) ;)

  There's 12 or So Bisleys here, 7 of which are those  5 1/2" stainless ones.  The lone shooter of those stainless ones is a .45 LC model.  Fantastic revolver.  You did very well on the price. :)

I got the same Bisley for the same price (unfired, at a pawn shop, of all places) about three years ago.  It's a great shooter with 300 gr cast GCs and goes where I go on my lease.  Haven't measured the cylinders; if it ain't broke, I ain't gonna "fix" it--

Hey Dennis (in Ft. Worth), if you gave the same $ three yrs ago, I'm feeling pretty good about my deal right now.  I've been reading a good many posts about the Ruger in 45 LC and the great majority has been good.  How would you describe the 'play' in your cylinder? Mine seems to 'wobble' just a bit. I'm sure there has to be a nominal amount, but how much is that? My cyl will left-right, up-down and for-aft on the pin.??

Well, I'm not sure how to quantify the acceptable "wobble" in a revolver; I've got a crate full of Blackhawks of all ages and every of them has what I'd call a normal bit of cylinder movement.  Only once have I come across a 357 Blackhawk that seemed awfully "loose" in the cylinder--so much that it would rattle if you shook it.  I bought it for a song, ordered a new cylinder latch from Ruger, and all's well now.  I'm thinking that your's would have to have been rode real hard and long to be worn excessively.  How's your cylinder gap?

Cyl to barrel gap??  Don't know. I don't have any feeler gauges thin enough to measure it.  It's pretty tight gap, can barely see daylight through it. ::)
