Modified Renegade?
« on: March 31, 2010, 04:48:14 AM »
Hello,

I just ran across a T/C Renegade, cap, .54. It has an offset hammer to clear a scope. My dad has bent a few to do that. The barrel is also tapped with two holes to the rear of the rear sight and has two separate scope bases attached. They are about an inch long and Weaver style. The owner swears he bought the rifle new this way. He is honest, but doesn't know a lot about MLers. I'm wondering if he was sold a bill of goods originally.
I've seen a lot of T/Cs and have NEVER seen one come from the factory like that. Has anyone here? I would think this would really kill the value of this rifle. Its in about 90% otherwise. Thanks and God Bless.

It certainly would not be standard production but probably could be ordered from T/C's custom shop.

Before inlines, a lot of gunsmiths did this to muzzleloaders.  Probably for deer hunters.

They've done that "cast off" kinda hammer for awhile and I've seen the scew holes tapped and with a little set screw plugs in them, but I haven't seen factory scopes mounted, I do believe they have them though.
Several states are now allowing scopes during ML season. Alot of solid Trad shooters are up in arms about it, but I think it's a loosing battle, too much special interest money and lobbying.
They always come up with the decades old argument of the bow season,
Compound vrs. longbow,,,, ::) And kill vrs wound,,most state DNR won't get involved and call it a legislative issue,,bottom line for them is license sales, and ya can't blame'm,,funds are cut to cover other state budget issues. :P :-X

T/C makes an off set scope base for all their traditional guns.  I don't think factory barrels are drilled and tapped but the Green Mountain barrels are.  It uses the rear sight holes and a hole in the breech plug just in front of the tang.  I ordered one yesterday.  T/C also makes a hammer that clears the scope bell.
