Hammer replacement

I remember reading of folk here replacing their standard hammers with Bisley style hammers.  Is this a direct part exchange?

Just curious, I want to try it with one of my Uberti SAA's.

On the Ruger I think you have to replace both hammer and trigger or at least generally so not to say a real good smith couldn't do one only. I assume on the Uberti you'll be using Uberti Bisley parts? Dunno on it if you need to do both or not but likely would be best.

I have seen whole bisley kits in Brownells so some of the other parts people must also carry them for about the same or less.  Check out some ot the advertisers here.
The kit includes the grip frame,trigger, and the hammer to turn your Black hawk or Vaquero into a Bisley.
I always wanted a Single six but they never really fit my hands.  One day at a friends shop was a Bisley single six.  Fit my hand perfectly and I actually can shoot the thing.  Only down side is it is ONLY 22 LR but have never looked at the other guns since and keep hoping to find another couple Bisleys or cheap Black hawks I can convert.

I once installed a Bisley hammer on my Blackhawk revolver, using the original BH trigger. I had to remove the "hump" at the rear of the Bisley hammer using a 1x30 belt sander. I would sand for a few seconds, then dip the hammer in cold water, then repeat. This is to keep me from destroying any heat-treatment on the hammer.
I made sure to compare both hammers and quit grinding when the rear portions matched.

The Super Blackhawk hammer is usually a "drop in" swap.  The Ruger Bisley hammer needs some material removal so it'll even fit, but, it's not a difficult job.

Here's a pair of .32 cal. New Model Single-Sixes with owner installed Bisley hammers.



I also swapped out the aluminum grip frames for something a bit heavier.....

Many of my "shooters" are fitted with lower spur hammers.

These Flat Top .44 Specials are the first NMs I have really messed with since the Bisley SBH came out and I have been pondering the same swap as AtlLaw is talking about, but now that you mention it, I kind of like the idea of using a SBH hammer, which was my conversion of choice on my OMs.

Will the SBH hammer fit the "mid-sized frame" of the Flat Top 44 Specials/New Vaquero?  I don't mind some fitting work, so if the relationship of the pivot center/notch is right, I'm set.

Incidentally, I don't have any other NMs to make the comparison.  The Bisley grip was too big for me and I let them go and stuck with my OM SBH with an Old Army grip frame.
