Just received this in my mail box, and fired of a letter to my two Liberal Senators!

Congressman Ron Paul

April 1, 2010

Well, here comes... a new fight over a biometric national ID card -- and if you don’t have the card, you can’t work.

Right now, freedom-stealing statists Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY), banding together with other statists from both parties, are scheming to sneak a massive power grab into a new “immigration reform” bill.

This bill is a statist’s dream -- “amnesty” for illegal immigrants and a biometric ID card for virtually everyone else.

That’s right. Instead of controlling the border and enforcing the rule of law, these statists want to control you.

They already do. Consider that your state driver's license has a magnetic strip on it, and any officer can swipe it thru his on board computer, and find out every thing about you. They just haven't installed check points throughout the country yet. But they will. When you get your license renewed they already in Texas, check your finger prints on the scanner, and record the data on your new license, along with all you physical stats, home address, everything. It will be no trouble to load more info on the strip. This state drivers' license can be read by any patrol car mounted computer in the country.
Has no one noticed the fatigue type uniforms, and high and tight hair cuts worn by many law enforcement personnel that are becoming more and more prevalent over the last 10 years or so? Check your local L.E. agencies and look at the grants the government has given them, ranging in large amounts of money, vehicles, and equipment including weapons. Many officers love the stuff, and have never connected the dots. Some have and are concerned, and some would shoot you in a minute if so ordered.
There are just as many in the military branches that could swing either way if so ordered, concerning American civilians. It will be a crap shoot.

I just checked my drivers license and there is a bar code looking thing on the back of it; I don't know if it's magnetic, though. Anyway, I'm pretty sure that the government already knows where I am and who I am, because they send me a check every month and they sent me a Census questionnaire. I'm not planning on getting a job, so I guess I'm good.

Dee that's what goes on here , also the Game dept was changed to Game "police" and sworn in as police officers and game police . All the main interstates now have road block gates on entrances and exits . And the Bio lab for the state now takes up a couple city blocks . And yep on the dri lic .

No magnetic strip in my DL, but there is a bar code. One thing I also noticed, my DL and my Concealed Carry permit have the same number now.

Sourdough, when you guys started talking about you license have no magnetic strip, but instead a bar code, it caused me to go back and look at mine. I have both a magnetic strip AND a bar code. I have no idea what my new license will look like when it come in, in a few days. Should be interesting but, the finger print scanned me this time also, when I went in to renew them.

Didn't know fingerprints were being used for drivers licenses, not here in Kentucky. We have a national ID card, it's called a social security card. A good friend refused to fill out the census, he trashed it. He fears the govt under osama. He said, they know more now than they need to. I told him they'd come looking, he said, they have to find me first. I don't trust osama at all. For the first time in my life I fear my own govt. POWDERMAN.

Anyone requiring unescorted access to the ports of Los Angeles/Long Beach, CA already has to have a biometric TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) card issued by the TSA. They still don't have readers at most entrances though. Nationwide, they figure they'll be issuing about a million or so cards when all's said and done. You don't get one, you don't work at any maritime facility.

I've been puting off getting one for over a year now since I have to pay for the thing. At least it's tax deductable.

Sourdough, I'm pretty sure that from the start Alaska concealed carry permits were the same number as your drivers license. I've had one since about 10 months after they were first created and I remember noticing that. I'm just mourning that when my current ccw card expires in May, I'll lose my NCIS exempt status. That was the main reason I got it in the first place. Better get to buying I guess.

Others, I saw on tv the other night that you can actually face a fine up to $5,000 for refusing to complete the census. I wonder how many Alaskans will refuse just to see what happens? My wife completed ours before I ever saw it. Sounds like there are several questions regarding race of responders. It bugs me that in the name of equality it seems like the Govt spends more and more time and $ looking into race. I dodge the question whenever possible. And I was told that whatever the race listed for the first person on the census form - that will be the designation for the household - so here in bush Alaska I think the results could be kind of a mess but lots of decisions and $ will be made on the results.

Actually, a fingerprint can't (as far as I know) be digitized and put onto a mag strip. Your licence would have to have an imbedded IC chip to do it. I don't know if they're doing that with any DL's yet but it will come soon.

What they can do is swipe your card and scan your print on a separate reader to see if they match. I could be wrong, but I don't think they do it wirelessly from a partol car back to the DMV yet.

New Mexico isn't quite as bad as Texas---yet. No fingerprint required. But now everyone that wears glasses has to remove them for their picture. That seems kind of stupid since you will most likely be wearing your glasses when you hand over your license. Instead of just comparing you and your picture with glasses you'll have to remove your glasses if you are checked for something. In anticipation of renewing my license last fall I grew a beard. When I went for the renewal I combed my hair down over my forehead (yes, I still have that much hair) and put on a deep frown when they photographed me. Then I went home and shaved. Just messin' with the man.

Renewal gets you a temporary license good for two weeks while Santa Fe mails your permanent one to you. Mine finally showed up after almost a month. Added more expense to the process for you to get the same thing you were getting the old way. At least the new licenses are readable.

Mine has a barcode and another strip that resembles something written in Chinese. Maybe they are printed in China which is why it took so long to get mine.

I didn't mean to say anything about finger prints being available from an on board patrol car computer. All your other statistics however, is on your license. A copy of your prints can be ran off at any agency of you thumb scans however in minutes on request. I also have no idea if a chip is implanted into the license itself, but it would not be hard.

Actually, NW, I gave up thinking that I could remain anonymous to the government about 50 years ago. And I think you know who my Senators are and how writing to them would be a complete waste of time.

Same here , at one time if they saw other non game violations they cxaled a cop now they don't have to . Also some cops are crossed trained .

Here in the peoples republic of Oregon, all police are game cops. The State police being the official one, but all can and do issue citations.

Well, yeah they can. How they do it is, the biometric reader creates an image which is then transfered as a binary value to the storage device. When you place your finger on the reader the next time the same thing happens but instead of storing the image it reads it from the storage device and the two are compared. There is a lot of things that go on in the background but for the most part all you need to remember is if it is done on a computer (anything with a micro controller) it is in its simplest form binary data which can be stored or transfered through any digital media that will hold the data.

As to the DL's some states use mag stripe, some use 3D bar code and some use both. Rumor is that RF ID will soon be in the national id.

But is there enough space on the typical 3.38" long mag strip (storage device) to record a complete print image?

When I was recently issued a new RFID badge (fingerprint readers to be used in conjunction with it), I was told that there was not enough space on the mag strip for a complete digitized print, so it only stores an incomplete pattern of points of my print that could be compared. They said there was no way (at least with this particular system) that a fingerprint could be reconstructed from the scant data that was stored, but that they do have systems using 'smart cards' (with an IC) that can do so.

Is that not correct?

My whole original point here concerning PRINT SCANS at driver's license stations, is the data stored on your card is more than sufficient to properly ID you. Along with this info, the card will give "whomever" FURTHER ACCESS to info stored SOMEWHERE about YOU. What difference does it make whether the print scans are stored on your card, or a nation wide database? The driver's license or ID card will get them immediate access.

On a side note, of the ~650 new ID's issued along with mine, there was at least one individual I know of who's print scan subsequently read as being that of another person.

I'd hope that any driver's licence scheme were a little more accurate than that...

Just run the strip over a good strong magnet and viola it's erased. We had a card writer where I used to work. We changed ours whenever we wanted. The only onformation on ours in MN was our drivers licence number. If erased the officer just had to manually enter it.
