Semi-auto pistol

I recently acquired a semi-auto handgun and wondered if anybody could give me some info on it? Stamped on the frame below the slide on the right side are the following:
                                                 czech
                                                 53
                                                 7.62 tok

I'm not very well informed about semi-auto weapons and don't have a clue as to what kind of caliber this gun might be. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Caliber is 7.62X25 Tokarov.  Very similar to the 30 Mauser Round 7.63X25. (but don't mix them up.)
It is a well built handgun that will work well for you for target, small to medium game, and plinking.
Ammo is available.  Just be care full when shooting at steel targets soem of the bullets have steel cores and that little 32 on steriods will pop through steel targets.

it could be the cz 52,  kinda an ugly "planet of the apes' looking semi auto.  the grips are plastic and held to the frame with a spring clip.  these are a very well made piece with a great cartrige.  Beware!!!! the Safety/ decock is not reliable and can fire if the lever is depressed and the hammer drops.  The achillies heel for these guys is the firing pin. buy a replacement and look up how to change it or pm me its very easy.   Even I did it.  these guys are getting harder to find.  hope this helps

"Sportsman's Guide" had surplus Tokorov ammo really cheap - just be aware that the surplus ammo available is corrosive, meaning that you shold clean the gun every time you shoot the gun.  Have fun with it - they are great fun for plinking.

I second this advice.  Upgrades for these surplus guns tend to pop up at peak importation (long past for CZ-52's) and then slowly dry up as stock dwindles.  There's usually only 1 or 2 production runs on this stuff, so get it while you can.  I personally got a replacement pin for mine from http://www.gunpartswarehouse.com/cz52.htm as they seemed to have the best price, but several other outfits have them too.  I just took out my original pin (which was still fine) and stored it just in case, and then installed the replacement pin.  Went in great, and gives a lot of peace of mind (and on the off-chance that the replacement breaks, I've still got the original as a backup).

I still regret not picking up one of the 9x19 barrels for mine back when they were around and selling for $75 :(.  The guns certainly have their quirks, but mine's been utterly reliable and is built like a tank.

I think the Sportsman's Guide has CZ52 firing pins on sale.
