What do you buy?
« on: April 03, 2010, 07:20:36 AM »
Just an informal survey. I am a car guy by profession. Years of working with people and with their cars. For instance people tend to by American Guns when they only buy American cars. If you are a Handi Owner, what is your favorite Car or Truck maker?

Me - Ford

I have no brand loyalty for vehicles, whatever suits my needs when I need a new vehicle based on good reviews and reliability is what I go for. Currently a 2006 Toyota Rav4, when gas prices jumped a few years ago, decided I needed a more economical ride yet it need to be able to pull my toys behind it, the 3500lb tow capacity and 26-28mpg hiway and 18-19 city vs 20 and 14 that I was getting with the Chevy Trailblazer made my decision for me. The V6 pocket rocket's 6.5 second zero to 60 time didn't hurt either!!  ;D

Ford.

Although picked up a '09 GMC WT during CFC.  Had the 2mpg spread from my old f150 (235k) and GMC cut a deal that was too good to pass up.

We've pretty much given up on foreign brands.  Used to buy Subarus and Nissans, still use a little nissan pu (215k) for getting to work.  SWMBO has an '06 Escape Hybrid (110k) that is an incredible little rig.

Figure there's not enough difference anymore, prefer to support the home grown brands.

When I want something that seems to run forever with only routine maintenance Honda then Toyota. What I would like to have, but isn't even imported anymore is the Defender 90!

Just past along my 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan with 271,000 miles on it to my oldest son (original engine, 1 transmission overhaul at 250,000 miles).

My ex just got a new Chrysler Sebring so she gave me her 2001 Dodge Durango to drive which has just passed 111,000 miles with no repairs except a couple of recalls, which she kept in showroom condition.

We used to be 100% Suzuki until we bought the Caravan to fit our three newly adopted sons and two grand parents. I was a Suzuki owner of motorcycles before the cars.

I prefer to buy American, but truth be told, with Dodge is as much "North American", but I can keep just about any car alive and well indefinitely without breaking the bank. ;D

(2) Fords right now.  Always used and always with the 4.6 L V8.  The 4.6 L just keeps going like that rabbit with the drum.

After getting rear ended by a drunk driver and having my Dodge Mini Ram van destroyed, I bought my first foreign car, a Subaru Forester. What a great vehicle for Minnesota winters!

Number two is a 1988 Cherokee XJ two door.
Number three is a 1989 Comanche MJ.
Number four is a 1999 Wrangler TJ.
Number five is a 2004 Liberty KJ.

I got some of both.  04 Chevy 2500 Duramax, 89 Vette (61,000 mi. :-*) 02 Toyota Sequoia, 01 Suzuki XL7 and an 08 Suzuki SX4 for the wife to drive to work.  That was the only new one, she works 12 hour shifts at 2 hospitals and is either coming or going in the dark, didn't want any thing not gonna run for her.  3 oldest kids all have Hondas.  I've owned more Chevy's than anything else, but I'll try anything.  (Anybody want to trade insurance payments, the kids on there really jack it up. :'()  DP

guy's, this subject has been the start of many bar fights.  but in all honesty i hate every car manufacture there is.  and as far as "american" made, thats just a sales pitch, i had a 1976 gmc half-ton and i swear every componet on that truck said made in canada.  bottom line is they will tell you anything to get your money.

I really wish I could say USA-ALL-THE-WAY, but out of the 13 + new vehicles I've purchased and the 6 + used vehicles over the years domestic standards for QC are abysmal compared to the other market segments...............  :'(
