MGM Maxi barrel

Hello everyone,
  Long time GBO member, new T/C Encore owner here.  I am considering purchasing a custom 20" blued MGM .357 Maxi barrel. Would any of you have experience with their barrels and this caliber to tell me if a lightweight barrel will shoot well?  I am think 20" long with a muzzle diameter of 0.600"  Is that too light, how will it balance and feel with a set of synthetics stocks and a 3-9x40 scope?

Dinny,
MGM's barrels are of excellent quality, most folks here would agreee.  The 357 Max is (in my opinion) one of the finest cartridges the the Contender has ever been chambered for, so I'm sure it will be excellent in the Encore also.

The lightweight barrel will probably be fine for hunting, but might heat up during reapeated firings, but that shouldn't be any real problem.  I suppose you don't intend to use it for extended target matches anyway.  I'll be that it will balance very well with the set up you are considering.

I say go for it!  You might talk to a tech person at MGM for any real advice though!

Thanks for the vote in my confidence. It's always a hard to take that "new" first step.  I'll post a range report when I get it.  :)

No just bought a 17 HMR barrel from them. Nice people.
