It has turned out to be exactly what it was intended--thanks to Bill.  Most folks on here probably don't know how this forum came to be, or that it originated in another place at another time.  Anyone else here remember Marlin Talk?

GBO was started in '97 so yeah we've been here a long time.

The Reference to Marlin is that the Marlin Firearms company once had forums on their site for both Marlin rifles and for NEF/H&R guns. One day with no real notice they just shut them down. Folks who hung out there were left without a home.

Folks from both groups asked me and several other site others to provide them a new home. Several of us site owners set up mirror forums for one or both (Marlin and NEF/H&R as requested.

The Marlin folks proved fickle and were scattered to the four winds. No one site really got any siginficant percentage of the total which was at that time about 14,000 registered members.

The NEF/H&R guys came here in masse and stayed. Most did or by now have found their way here. One of the forums they had there was a general BS forum for topics that didn't fit elsewhere. That was the genesis of the Pot Bellied Stove Forum. It as begun with the new members in mind to replace that general BS forum over there at Marlin's site.

I really don't know where the Marlin guys are these days. Marlin Owner's now in the second generation of ownership since it started no doubt has some but not even half. That site drifted badly under the original owners and the poor servers they had. It was down more than up. It has now been bought out and Dave and Larry have made arrangements with us to host them on our servers and since that has happened the dependability and up time of their site has greatly improved.

GBO is a much better site it has a down home feel.
Thanks again GB.

Yep...  I do love it here.  Seldom have much to say but visit several times a day.  The sub forums manage to cover about all my interests so the other forms I used to visit have pretty much all fallen by the wayside.

I was on the NEF site.  Went to one of the other sites, but people there was spotty.  Then someone sent me a PM and said most of the NEF guys were at Graybeards, so I came over and been here ever since.  Have not been back to any of the other sites.

I go to GBO exclusively.

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.
