Racial Census Questions

Why is the census so concerned with race?  In the race questions, there are several Hispanic choices, inclulding one for none of the above where the respondent fills in their choice, including Spaniard.  The last I knew, Spain was a part of Europe, which should make them white.  The government is not concerned about what part of Europe (unless it was Spain) my ancestors came from, probably since there are no taxpayer freebies for being white.

Because there are special corrective entitlement programs for certain racial groups. Therefore the government needs to know the percentages of these racial groups. That is also why certain racial groups are not listed, i.e portuguese, chinese, because those groups are not entitled to participate in these special programs.

I have it on good authority that if enough people list "Spanish", the government wants to pass legislation to make "Spanish" the official language.

Sounds like racial discrimination to me.  Isn't that illegal?

You have to remember that before the 13 colonies where founded 50% of the USA was a Spanish Territory. From Virginia to Oregon was all Spanish so that should be our native language if we don't count the native american tongues.

True, but they lost!  I guess that if I live long enough it'll all work out since white, English speakers will become a minority and will be able to get in on the handouts

I checked OTHER and listed HUMAN as my race. As I understand science that's the ONLY race we can be. I left the rat race a long time ago.
