Barnes X pistal 357 max
« on: April 05, 2010, 09:06:21 AM »
Has anyone used the 125gr or 140gr barnes pistal X bullet in thier 357 max. They shot great in my rifle but I have not shot anything but paper yet. Looking at maybe whitetails with them.

I had given the idea some thought..I think it would make the Max a whole new animal..Mine likes 180-200 grain bullets... the lighter bullets might extend its usable range some..don't know..e-mail Barnes and see if they had any experience with that bullet in a Max.

I emailed barnes about these bullets before.  I really like barnes bullets and wanted to give them a try.  The response I got was something to the effect that it would work fine on deer, but was not designed for such a high velocity and it was possible a petal could brake off.  However, even if a petal broke off, the teminal perforamance would still be as good or better than other bullets out there.

I have never given it any thought, my maximums like heavy bullets. 158 and lighter don't shoot near as well as 180s. Plus I don't see why I would want to pay for what those things cost when my home made hard cast do everything I require for pennys. 8)
