trying to find the thrill again

Well I live about 140 miles from you, if you live in SE Oklahoma, and other than the marijuana growers, that is one of the pretty parts of the country in the United States. At 60 years old I don't do a lot of things I used to do, cause I just done'em so much. Gettin in the woods is what I like. If I kill something fine, and if not, that's fine too. I don't need any more guns, I just want to relax, and be content at what I have learned and survived over the years.

There is still some marijuana around I am sure but nowadays what worries me is so many people making meth in their bathtubs. It is pretty country and hard to make a living here but I hope to never have to leave this place.

I to got bored with rifle hunting. Bow hunting was just so much more exciting to me. Handguns brought that thrill back to rifle season for me.I know about exclusively hunt with open sighted revolvers.

This is where I'm at. Legitimate handgun calibers, shot with iron sighted revolvers.....or a handgun caliber in a lever with irons.  Like I said somewhere else, seems shootin' a deer with a scoped high powered rifle is just too damn easy. That and the half  dozen doe tags they give ya every year to keep numbers down. Used to be I had to kill a buck or two every year to prove sumpthin.......now, Id rather watch the kids shoot em'. Then they gotta gut 'em and drag 'em out. I've found it's easier to carry their rifles when they're doing that....... when I'm just carrying a handgun.

 This has been a great thread. When age catches up with you, lots of things changes as we all know. This post has really brought back some memories for me.

It's good to know folks do go into the woods, don't shoot everything that moves, and leaves "seed" stock for the next year. Until Louisiana brought in the posted law, and now it's mostly lease hunting, I think that has done some good to all the outlaw hunters. The lease boys are pretty harsh, catch some one on their lease, and also have rules that do make sense, they limit kills, what can be killed, etc. Hope this all works for the better.

I am blessed with a small tract of land that has some pretty good hunting. Now, it really doesn't matter if I kill anything or not. I am strictly a handgun hunter, and I really enjoy being in the woods. Gives me a good time to "talk" to the Lord, and enjoy my blessing.

I put my rifle away years ago for handgun hunting. Even if I come home empty handed I still feel good that I was out handgun hunting. Currently I use a Ruger super redhawk 44mag with open sights and 7.5"bbl. So far I have had good luck with 240xtp's over a charge of 23.5 grains of H110. I have used 180xtp's in the past also with great success along with other various 44mag bullets all of which worked good. I just now am getting back into the encore game. I bought a 12" 223 barrel at the last gun show to start things off.
I shot this buck years ago using a Taurus 44mag with Remington 275 grain core lokt's. He was facing me, I think he was around 75 yards. The round hit him in the chest and he went straight down.

Well I came home from this weekends gun show with a G-2 in 30-30 and a TC scope on it. Hopefully with a bit of practice I will be able to shoot this thing well enough to give it a try this fall.

Use a chihuahua dog, and a broom handle with a sharpened point. When you find a deer sic the chihuahua on him for a distraction, and drop out of a tree on him, and stab him with the broom handle. That should bring new life into your hunt, and an added challenge.

Wear a cup for that drop out of tree part........for all you guys who are tired of harvesting all those deer every year and have gotten bored with the whole thing, you would be welcome to come out here to my place and hunt these little blacktail deer we have. They have to be three point or better (thats a six pointer for some of you guys)  Might just change your mind about how easy huntin deer really is.  And by all means bring your revolvers, but don't be disappointed if you go home empty handed. I guarantee you'll still have a great time.  If you harvest a deer every season in this country, you are one heck of a hunter...

My biggest thrill this year was my 6 year old daughter harvesting her first and walking up on my son's first buck. I went to him after he shot and he had no idea how big it was, just that it was a buck. I think everyone on the mountain heard me hooping when I saw what he had shot. We spent 14 weekends scouting prior to season. That does not make it a gimme but it gives you a lot better chance and gives me time being where I love to be, in the woods.

I have literally seen a guy take a gun from a kid when a deer walked up. I can't understand him cause I would rather watch a kid miss a shot than for me to make the shot. I have never been as excited over killing a deer as I was when my children & nephews all brought deer home this year. Maybe deep down I wanted a pistol where I could shoot some and not have to drag one out. I think my son is gonna try to use it for his youth hunt this year to harvest a doe but keep his encore handy for a good buck if one shows.  ???Cheater!!

Well I went and shot a couple times this evening. I shot it once standing to let my son see how BAD it kicked. He kinda giggled and said "Let me see that a minute" That is where I messed up, I handed it to him. We never tried to adjust the scope cause I could tell looking through the bore it was pretty close. He knelt and took a rest and busted a V-8 can at 25 yards. I was going to show him up and tried a plastic bottle at 50 and missed. This is where I messed up again, I gave the gun back to him and he busted it with his 1st try. It was hitting a little to the left(that is why I missed) so he held to the right side and hit it. He is 13 and weighs about 120 lbs. and handled this gun perfectly fine. I would recommend to anyone afraid of recoil. I can't wait to sight it in on paper to see what it will really do. Thanks for all the advice and help guys.

That's just wrong on some many levels.
I'm at a point wherer I enjoy watching the g'kids hunt, fish, and plink.
But even when I was actively hunting I would never take a shot a kid had a chance at.
