Mosin ammo

Have any of you used the 203 gr. soft point ammo in your Mosins? I think it's Brown Bear ammo.
Let me know how it shoots and what you think about using it as hunting ammo.

I got a few boxes of the Brown Bear 203's around... I have 3 Mosins but the one I would (and have) taken hunting is my '43 IZH ex-sniper 91. That one is pretty accurate, iron sights and all and it seems to like those rounds. I don't reload for that caliber and have never slugged the barrel on it (yet). Testing at the local range told me it was pretty good with those at 100 yards and the Winchester stuff, can't recall the weight of those.

I haven't bagged anything with mine but went out a couple of years ago for Wisconsins late season. Didn't see anything. I was wondering about the last time that weapon had been out in the snow with bad intent... who knows, maybe a woman carried that thing in their Great Patriotic War...

But to your question, yeah, I wouldn't hesitate to shoot a deer with those rounds, I'm sure it would knock one down no problemo....

At our club site in day a young fella brought his 91/30 fresh from Gander and shot 40 rounds of Silver Bear 203's...........little punk outshot most of the SCOPED guys  :P

I have bought one box and it went boom......no specific comment on accuracy as more dazzling than any other from ME shooting it.

Hunting with it....HELL YES.  203 grains of ANYTHING will leave an "impression".  If I were you I'd get 2 boxes and shoot.  Your rifle may love it or not, switch up brands of ammo if you find the rifle is not "performing" to your expectations.  Different flavors match better in different rifles.
