Range Report UL.223 w/ *new*Redfield Scope

Mounted a *new* 2-7X33mm Redfield w accurange reticle by Leupold on my recently acquired .223 barrel and shot it for the first time today. The 20" UL barrel is an extractor and extraction was positive with each shot as I elected to use factory Winchester White Box 45 grain ammo that I had on hand for awhile. I noticed when loading the extractor barrel that the fresh round goes in at first at a slight angle until it straightens out when getting near the extractor. I fired 5 shots to get the scope settings right and then two additional shots which were less than 1/2 apart. I didn't get to do any additional shooting but will tomorrow weather permitting.

I like the Redfield scope which I mounted in high rings to avoid touching the hammer. The circle reticle was even ideal when using the 25 yard pistol target as the reticle circle at 100 yards was the same as the circle on the target. I'm really impressed with the scope for the money and also with the lightweight .223 barrel.. more info later.

That's the scope I'm intrested in, haven't seen one with the accurange reticle here yet.  Lookin forward to hearing more about it.  DP

The Redfield line from Leupold seems to be at least as good as my Leupy VX1 series of scopes, the eye relief is very generous and upon shouldering the rifle the field of vision is clear and you don't need to creep up or fall back to get on target. The finish is a rougher matte version than other matte type finishes scopes wear. Unlike Leupolds the Redfields power ring turns easily. My range is set up in my driveway and where the driveway makes a 90 degree bend I built a wooden bunker and use 2' of sand and a plywood front to hold it all in. This driveway tunnel has all kinds of light filtering in from through the trees that line both sides and can be tough on all scopes with shadows and reflections. The Redfield seemed to handle these with ease and all day long, as I would pick up the rifle and look downrange (I was splitting firewood nearby) and never once did the sunlight or shade affect the scope or my ability to see the target. I think for the $139 I paid for the scope, that it is a good value.

I am ordering one for my 357mag.max Handi that will be here as funds permit. I want the 2-7X33.

Great minds I guess, a Redfield 2x7x33 is on my wishlist as well. I am planning for it to go on either my shorty .243 or a Superlight .223 I have. I cannot decide which I really need it on the most, that must mean I need at least two Redfields. I wanted to stay with the 3x7 because it is smaller(shorter) and lighter but perhaps I should try one in 2x7 and another in 3x9. Now all I need is funding.....<><....:)

Know that feeling. I put a 357 on layaway at my gunsmiths and he has no layaway policy so as soon as I get it paid for I will have to have the scope. That is why I want the scope first. Not much fin to have the gun but no sights to shoot by.

Hi All,

I bought the 3 9 40 "New" Redfield and put it on my 22" 45/70.  It has the standard recticle.  I have a Leupold 3x9x40, Rifleman and I like the Redfield better.  The power adjust ring is sweet, unlike my Leupold that you need a pair of channel locks to make adjustments ;)  Anyway, I am shooting 405 gr SP Remingtons on 49 Grains of H4198 and when I do my part this is an MOA gun/scope @ 100 yds.  The view is clear and you can move back and forth a fair amount without losing your target.  One note, the scope appears very tough as I have broken one pair of shooting glasses and now have 3 fresh cuts on my forehead, but the scope held zero just fine.  Ruger #1 loads in a standard handi buck a little.

I am going to get the 4 12 40 Redfield for my 30-06 Handi as soon as have the cash in hand.  Very happy with the scope.

I just put the 2-7x33 on my new .44 mag Handi. I will be sighting  it in Saturday hopefully. :)

BTW, I used medium Burris Zee rings and it fit  perfect.

I started using those Signature Z's on Tim's recommendation and love 'em!  I won't use anything else now.   ;D

I also took some very mild 45/70 loads, using BH 209, to the range today, but I couldn't convince my wife these loads where okay for her to shoot with blood running down my face.  Women, go figure. :P

I recently mounted one of the 2X7X33s with the regular reticle and the optics are nice and clear and the scope is compact and light weight.  My only complaint is that the eye relief on mine is less than advertised.  Could just be my individual scope I guess.
