I bought my kids a Marlin 795 last year and I just never really liked it, mostly because of the plastic stock. I thought about making a wood stock, but then I recently saw M1 Carbine stocks on sale at CTD so I bought one thinking that might be an easier route. It wasn't what you'd call a drop-in fit, there was a lot of grinding, bedding, etc. After reading about the Liberty Training Rifle I decided to swap out the open sight for the similar style aperture as on the M1. I'm waiting on a metal trigger guard the buttstock magazine pouch, and then I'll put on the sling and oiler and call it done.
I shot it at the range last night, put 40 rounds into a 6" circle at 100 yards, which I think is acceptable considering cheap ammo, open sights, and evening shooting conditions. I'm sure my kids and their young eyes will outshoot me.
