Marlin 25-20
« on: April 06, 2010, 12:32:51 PM »
Well guys after much searching for one of these relics, I got one handed to me and told to take care of it by a good friend who has many guns. I was talking about wanting a stubbed 32-20 in a Handi and he says well I use to have a pair, but only the 25-20 remains (32-20 burned in a house fire) and it is yours if you want it.

Marlin Lever action. Now to start reloading mild loads for squirrel and rabbits.

Oh something funny about it is that it has two firing pins. They can be flipped to choose rimfire or centerfire. Is the rimfire for the old blackpowder 25-20????

That's a mighty good friend, indeed !  Congrats !

What model of Marlin .25-20 rifle do you have ?  (the model should be on the top tang)

I'm far from expert, but AFAIK, The only Marlins with two FP's were .32's - and I don't believe there was ever such a cartridge as the ".25-20 Rimfire".

IIRC, the only .25 RF cartridges were the .25 Stevens Long & Short, the .25 Bliss, and the .25 Bacon - all long obsolete, and expensive collector's items today.

I have no clue, as to whether or not a .25 Stevens would chamber/fire in a .25-20 chamber (with a RF firing pin, of course).

May not have been factory. I will check it out myself. My friend was telling me about the pins. He may have been thinking about the 32-20 that burned. I will take it apart and find out.
