.204 Ultra Varmint Update(PICS)
« on: April 06, 2010, 09:13:45 PM »
so i posted a month or so ago that i picked up a 204 ultra varmint fluted for $160 at a sportsmans warehouse by my dads(silverdale,wa) and i thought i'd give an update with pics

it came with that plastic "varmint" stock and i shot it with that but couldn't get it to shoot less than 1.5''

at 100yds with 32gr v-max's, i know it's just getting broken in but i still hated that stock so i swapped it

with the one on my 45-70 and did the o-ring trick on it to free float the barrel

with the new stock i got it to shoot 1/4-1/2'' groups at 50yds

i put an older redfield 3-9 low pro scope on it with REALLY LOW weaver rings and it clears everything  ;D and i've shot it about 40 times like this with no problems

im going to get some berger 35gr because i've heard they show the best terminal performance on coyotes and that it my main target with this rifle

anyone used the 35gr bergers with good results?

Regardless of caliber, Berger bullets can be extremely accurate if they are loaded correctly. I suggest contacting them for load data and following their reloading guidelines to find your barrel's COAL "sweet spot."  ;)
