I have a Kolpin pistol case that has a shoulder sling.  I carry the Contender in my hand, with the case over my shoulder.  When I get to my stand, I use the case to sit on for a little extra cushion.  When I climb down after dark, I put the Contender in the case and throw it over my shoulder.  That frees up my hands for a flashlight, or if I'm lucky - to drag my trophy out of the woods.

Otherwise I just carry it in my hand.

I much prefer a sling to any holster that I have tried.  Besides carrying my Pistol it is also a terrific shooting aid.

Ditto to what Walt said. If I wrap the sling around my arm, sort of like a handy-sling, it locks the gun to my forearm for better offhand shooting.

Interesting posts....because I do believe it is one reason I got 'out' of Contenders around 1983 when I owned my first, a .35 Rem Super 14. It was so awkward to carry that I figured "why not just carry a rifle and be done with it?".
I may try to find the sling you guys are talking about. A shoulder holster for a gun as large as the Contender with a 14" barrel is just too bulky to put over or under cold weather hunting clothes IMO. Probably why many hunters use 10" barrels as I may wind up doing.

I use a shoulder holster that has a strap the slips over the shoulder bandoleer style that I use with my 14" and 10" scoped Contenders. I love it. I am right handed and I wear the holster on my left side and it is easy to cross draw.

I use an "Uncle Mike's" crossdraw for my scoped 14"s. If I get to a spot that I'm going to sit at for a while, I'll usually take it out and lay it across my lap. It's simple, but it works for me.

The picture that Glen posted is the rig I linked to at eabco.  He designed it himself and he did GOOD!!!  I add a Stoney Point shootin' stick(either one legged or two) to the equation and I'm good to go.  The pistol rides very comfortably and safely under my left arm and my left hand is usually close to or riding on the pistol while the right arm is using the shootin' stick for a walkin' stick.  I haven't been into "fast draw" for quite some time, but I can come into full battery fairly quickly, smoothly, and quietly.  Right... ;D :D ;D I don't do anything too quickly, smoothly or quietly anymore, but it does work good for me.

I use a bandolier made by Quiethide.  Fits the bill for me.

I paid $80 for mine QH.  I use it while riding a 4 wheeler and don't hve to worry about if flopping around and yet my .22 hornet is readily available.

I use a leather Quiethide holster for my .35 Rem super 16, (I modified the holster shoulder amd retention straps myself). If in a blind the TC sits in my lap, but climbing, up/down, in/out of blind, riding into and out of the woods, I carry in the holster.
