Bowhunting Africa? Luminocks a must!
« on: April 07, 2010, 11:29:33 AM »
If your gonna hunt Africa with a bow, by all means use Luminox. They will help determine the hits you make, or misses, and they are legal in RSA. Here is an example of how they work, I shot this pig Saturday in Texas. these are three stills from the video.

Three shot segment from the video we took from the hog hunt. The Luminocks are simply an incredible tool for archers. They provide such a great confirmation of your hit. This was a 155lb hog shot at 22 yards quartering away.

Meat on the table!!!! The luminocs are nice. I don't bowhunt, but my stepdad does and he can immediately tell me over the radio if he needs a tracking dog for a bad hit or if he just needs some help loading the game.

I thank God everyday for my loving wife and all the fond memories of hunting with my Papa from a child until now.

Please take time to take a kid hunting, it will be a life long memory and blessing for both of you!

I found the ones I have as nocks only. I found them in 3 packs for 21 bucks. The battery lasts about 40 hours and is only on at the moment of release. When found in the animal of the bush, you can wiggle the nock back out 1/16" and the light goes off.

I'm sure there are many other designs but these are the only ones I've used so far. I cannot see how much better another design could be, unless they are lighter, or they have a brighter or longer lasting light. In theory these add some weight that would possibly have effect on flight or trajectory. I think that is only true for those using ultra light arrows. If your shooting under 300-350 grains you might see a change. If you're shooting more then 390 grains then I have not seen any effect on arrow trajectory or flight at all.

Shooting them at last light they look very much like a tracer bullet from a gun. They provide a long orange streak through the air right into your target.

It's pretty easy and much cheeper to make your own lighted nocks. You use the thill bobber lights and a small piece of dowel. I have found them to work better that the luminocks as I have had the luminocks shut off when passing through an animal.
99% of all Lawyers give the other 1% a bad name. What I find hilarious about this is they are such an arrogant bunch, that they all think they are in the 1%.

Interesting that they have shut off on you. I use Beeman 400's and Victory 350's. I must use a nock wrench to turn them out and align them. (Or my teeth). They are so tight that you cannot do it with your fingers alone. I cannot imagine how they could get wiggled or pulled back out to shut of with a gaping hole that a broadhead makes through an animal?

However if there is one thing I have learned with archery, using the words ( or believing the words) Always and Never is bound to screw you up!

I have used the luminocks and the show up very well, was shooting them on about 430gr arrows and didn't notice a change. I don't know that the complete arrow from lum. would be better, just pointing out the progression
of the co.
I tried the making my own lighted nock, it works, but i figured if i did a
time figure on them my time was worth about $.02 per hour. It is much easier
and cheaper for "ME" to buy them and practise with the time i saved.
