tikka t3 338 federal magazines
« on: April 08, 2010, 12:26:44 PM »
Well I went ahead and ordered the tikka t3 lite in 338 federal and can't seem to locate mags for it. Is the same magazine thats used for the 243, 308 the same one thats used for the 338 federal? All of the listings that I find for them don't show the 338 federal in particular. thanks

338 Federal is based on the 308 (necked up for the larger bullet) so the same magazine will work.

just an update for anyone that cares. as it turns out for some reason no one could seem to find a listing for the 338 federal magazine. so..... I ordered a .243-.308 magazine for it and it is identical to the factory 338 federal mag that came with the rifle. they both have the "M" on them which I believe stands for medium.

Think we were waiting to hear you asked your dealer about the extra mag "or" you looked in the manual. Anyway the answer is always on their web site , if you do not have the book.

Now for the limbsaver pad and a pound of Varget . The limbsaver will help with felt reciol and the varget gets the nod with reloads.

I am happy with my t3

My .338 Win mag uses the same magazine as my .270 Win.

They interchange and work perfectly.    Go figger....

The 338 Win   is the longer case where the 338 federal is based on the parent 308 W case .

Yes, but the .270 Win. does not share the same case as the .338 Win. Mag., and it works anyways.  It wouldn't surprise me if the .308 magazine would also interchange with the .300 WSM family of cases.

The T3 comes in just one action length, unlike it's predecessor.

The "M" magazines for the .308 are different than the "SM" magazines for the WSM cartridges.

Sorry to thread jack but, speaking of Tikka T3 magazines, I have a T3 in .308 but its to short (the magazine) to get my handloads out close to the lands. Do you know if a 30-06 or 270 magazine would work for .308 so I can seat bullets out farther?

Let me know. Thank you.
