What after market trigger would you buy?

I think I am going to have to buy a after market trigger for my new Remington 700 SPS Varmint 22-250. The reason being I tried to adjust it last night and the screw was so tight I ended up stripping the hex head of the screw. So I think I will have to buy a new one. I have little gun smithing skills so I would need a drop in one. I need one that is as simple as possible to install. I would also like it to addjust to about 2 pounds of pull. The trigger on the rifle now is great with no creep at all and breaks like glass but the pull weight must be around 8 pounds or so. That just stinks period. Thanks and let me know what you would buy. If you happen to have a link to the one you woud buy that would be great to. Dale

If you have the new style Rem trigger don't think the saftey will work with the after market triggers might want to try a Jewell

I've always liked Shilen triggers.  I'm sure I'd like Jewel triggers too, but Shilen can usually be found at half the price.

That is going to be my first plan of attack because I really do like the trigger but I can not take the heavy pull. Dale

Well if that one is ruined replace it with another x mark pro trigger.They are available from brownells 70 bucks dealer cost retail is 90

When you refer to new style, are you talking x mark vs previous factory or all the way back to the ones where you had to have it on fire to open bolt?

Rifle Basix, Shilen, Timney.  All are better than the factory Remmy triggers.  The Jewell is probably the best of the lot, but seems to be pretty darn sensitive to the elements (dirt/grit), so I'd opt to leave them off of my rifle, unless you were building a dedicated target rifle.

Remington 700s have one of the most tuneable triggers on the market, and I prefer them over all the after market triggers. It will do, when properly tuned, anything the aftermarkets will do in my opinion.

I agree that the Rem trigger can be a very good trigger.  I have several 700s and a Mod 7 and I like those triggers as well as a Jewell I have on a Win 70.  The old triggers can be adjusted to deliver great performance.

I do like the X Mark Pro Trigger a lot. It has no creep at all and breaks like glass when it does go off. For that reason I think I will most likley buy the exact same trigger from Brownells. It is cheaper than other after market triggers and once it is down to around 2 pounds of pull or so I will be very happy with it. Dale

Nothing will be better than the type-2 X-Mark Pro.

Remmy triggers are one of the better factory triggers to work on.  I've played with enough that I can do a pretty decent trigger job in just a few minutes.  You can get the pull weights down to very acceptable levels for hunting and tactical shooting.  The problem with the triggers though is that for absolute precision shooting, you can not get the trigger down enough and keep safety/reliability (below about 2lbs).  The other problem is that the Remmy triggers are going to be less consistant in pull wieght variations than a good aftermarket trigger from pull to pull.  The triggers are mass produced just like the rest of the parts of the rifle, meaning that the tolerances will not be as close as those used for precision shooting.

That being said, all I'm running at the moment on my Remingtons and custom rifles off of Remington actions are factory tuned triggers, but I will be upgrading at least one of them soon.

My hunting Remingtons will never need anything more than a trigger job to the factory trigger.

Factotry triggers though are still < good aftermarket units.

This is a clip from shilen on their triggers "This specialized hunting trigger is three-way adjustable for weight of pull, sear engagement, and overtravel. Pull weight is adjustable from 1 1/2 to 3 pounds. This trigger does not come with a safety. You must use the safety from your original Rem 700 trigger. If you have the newer X-Mark Pro, you must purchase a safety kit and bolt action release."

The 700 in 222 I just purchased has a Rifle Basix trigger in it. Truthfully I do not see it being better than a properly adjusted Rem factory trigger.
If spending money on an aftermarket trigger buy a Jewell

I just replaced my Rem trigger with a Timney Trigger.
