Will the G2 be a good choice for Silhouette

I play the NRA Small Bore and Hunter pistol games.  I have two old Contender frames and they work fine.  I have worked both of the triggers to perfection and can turn in good scores consistently.

I was just wondering if anyone has used the G2 frame for this game.  On a post in the handgun hunting page the one thing I see is that the trigger is not good.  That means that it ain't worth a dang for silhouettes unless the trigger can be fixed.  

Also has anyone had any trouble with weight limits and is anything being done to allow more weight or do you just get by with a lighter scope?

Any other comments, good or bad are welcome.

You can only hit the target if the barrel is pointed in the right direction when the bullet leaves the barrel.

I do believe you are correct about the triggers. I would stick with the old Contender frames for great tigger pulls until the G2 proves it can take a NICE trigger with little work......  Just my 2 cents

I have an old Contender frame and the trigger is just about as good as they come.  It is my understanding that the G2 trigger is about the same as the encore's.  Jim Henry in California did and excellent job on my Encore, but it is not the same as my old contender.  I did get a chance to handle a new G2.  I realize the trigger hadn't been to a smith, but I did not like it.  Could be that I hate changing anything that was working so well.  Just my .02

I don’t think that the new G2 will be as good as the old Contender in the trigger department, but I think it will be a better choice when it comes to hunting; the reason being that if you have to ease the hammer down you won’t need to reopen the action and make a lot of noise that could score off game!

Another consideration is that barrel compatibility has not been 100% with the older barrels.  I don't have any experience with this as I have not touched a G2, however I've heard of frames not accepting older barrels and T/C's response was to provide a G2 barrel (12") which will not qualify for IHMSA production status.  The Contender is the choice until either this is fixed or the rules get changed.  Frankly I wouldn't hold my breath until either happen.  You've got a better chance of deep fat frying a snowflake to a golden brown!

I am not a fan of the G2 and I have not touched one either.  I have heard about the barrel compatability also and have been wondering.  Sending a new barrel to me is not as big of a problem as you guys that shoot IHMSA because the NRA decided it is ok to use a 12 inch barrel now.  Consider this, You have a barrel that you have developed a load for that is working to perfection and you have been shooting it for several years now and winning with it.  If it dosen't fit on your new G2, are you going to send it in on trade for a brand new TC Barrel?  I know I wouldn't.

Just a quick word on letting the hammer down on a Contender. All you have to do, and this is silent, is hold the barrel firmly in place and squeeze the trigger guard like you are breaking it open. This resets the trigger and makes no noise. Then start back very slightly with the hammer and watch the trigger reset or fall forward. Then you know if it will cock for sure.  Hope this helps in the G2 vs Contender problems. Thanks, Wayne Fish

I dont know why the G2 wouldnt shoot well.I have one that I have been shooting and it is shooting really good groups for me. The trigger is OK and the gunsmith told me that he can make it really good with a litttle polishing and some spring work.I am not sorry that I bought mine. BEAGLER
