.44 Mag. Followed Me Home!
« on: April 13, 2010, 04:22:40 PM »
I stopped at an out-of-the-way gun shop today, was looking around and it spotted me!  A like-new Ilion-made .44 Mag. with synthetic stock and scope mount only.  I tore myself away and headed for the hills (literally).  I couldn't avoid the magical pull to return on the way home and the darn thing jumped into my arms when I walked in the door.  I just couldn't bear to leave it alone (with 100 or so other guns), so I bought it after haggling a great price.

The barrel is not micro-grooved as I expected, and the contour is a bit heavy.  I'm gpoing to give it a try with both cast and jacketed bullets ASAP.

So how good of a price did you get it down to?

What a sad story, another addicted Handi owner...spending the children's milk money...should be ashamed of yourself! ;D

I love those! Just got a Remington Model 141 35 Rem. could have sold for about a 500% profit the day after I got it! Didn't buy for a closet queen so I turned it down.

RANGE REPORT:

I took it to the range today after mounting a 1x - 3x Weaver scope on it.  I'm bummed out because I was only able to shoot a 1-1/2" 3-shot group at 100 yd. with the Winchester 240 gr. JSP ammo that I had on hand.  It's time to try some reloads and hope I can find something better.

Heck yeah, it's great!! I can say without a doubt that thousands of overbore 44mag owners would have been tickled pink to have their barrels shoot handloads under 2" let alone shoot factory ammo into 1˝"!!  ;)

I have one of the older 44 mags... it shoots good.
The idea that the old ones are bad shooters is more fiction than fact. Just my 2 cents.

That's not a bad group at all. Keep shooting it to break it in. I remember my .357 Mag Handi was shooting horrible groups out of the box until I had 2 full boxes through it. After that it was really accurate.

I think 1.5" at a 100yds is pretty poor...

It should at least be inside 1.25"...

You probably should just sell it to me... ;)

Most people I have seen at the range can't even shoot a 1.5" group ;)On top of that with a 1-3 power scope. Most of them have a large by huge tacticool  scope on a heavy barreled AR .....and shoot beach ball size groups. :D

+1 That!
Gun Control means being able to hit your target (dead center!).

Yeah, I subscribe more to the sniper school than to tghe spray and pray crowd.  I would also ratgher hunt small game with a rifle than a shotgun.  If we could hunt turkey with a rifle, I'd prefer that.
