257 Roberts loads ?

Hello to all the 257 Roberts fans out there. My wifes rifle is on the way back from the wonderful people at Ruger firearms. I am going to shoot a few factory rounds through it and see if its a keeper or not. If it is I'd like to keep from trying everything in the powder cabinet again. So heres the crux of the problem. I know that there are some powder bullet combinations that for some reason just shoot well in a number of rifles no matter who made them. I am open to any and all suggestions. Although I am looking for bullet weight ranges in the 100 - 120 grain for whitetails.

I had good luck with 100 gr bullets and imr 4064,might try that

Both real good choices. My Dad's favorite was a Jack O'conner pet load. Lots of IMR4350 and 115-120gr Nosler Partitions, 117-120gr Hornadys, 117gr Sierras, 125gr Barnes (hard to find) Velocity on the heels of 3000fps. It's worked in both our Remington Model 722's in 257Roberts. I can't break 3000fps in ours unless I drop to a 100gr and those 100grainers will break 3100fps easily.

It's a fun cartridge and has worked for us since 1952.

i wont give out an exact load as becaue the 257 loading data is very mild my load is a bit over book but my favorite combo in the two i have use h414 and a 117 sierra flat based spitzer.  Second choise on powder would go to 4350 and second choise for a bullet would be a 120 nos ballistic tip either bullet pushed to about 3000 fps works great.

we got 2970 fps with 120 gn nosler partition with the hodgdon hybrid 100. around 1 1/2 groups. i tried reloader 19 also and it is around 1" @ 100 yds.

IMR4350 in a good rifle will cut 1/2" with good bullets. IMR4064 is very accurate, also.
Dad had some 120gr Norma's that his Remington dearly loved to the point that a whole box went into a 1/2" @ 100yds. Grandfather's Remington preferred Hornady's and his would outshoot Dad's.

THEY are why I shoot handguns so much. I can outshoot anyone in the family with a Ruger Blackhawk or a US Arms Abilene, and I can do a good job on game with a rifle. Just not great at shooting groups. Game don't get groups and I know where the first one will go and have rarely needed a second shot.

The 120 Nosler Partition and a good charge of IMR4350 is my favorite in the .257.
I can chrono 2800fps plus in the Ruger No. 1.
