New From Colorado
« on: April 16, 2010, 01:26:08 PM »
Hi, all!

I just registered yesterday and at the insistence of someone whose beard is grayer than mine, I am introducing myself to the group.

I am originally from Nebraska but moved to Colorado in the late 1970s. In my teenage years I spent some time hunting and plinking with my dad and friends. I went to West Point (USMA) for awhile and had lots of fun doing army stuff.

When I got back home I just kind of forgot guns, although I was interested in black powder shooting, but I never bought anything. Many years went by and I still did not get back into guns. I sent my son to boy scout camp and he did some .22 shooting there and loved it. but I still did not act upon it.

Later, my son went through police training and tried to get me back into guns in 2000-2002 period, but I still did not take the bait. My son did buy a .22 rifle and went out to the range a few times. In 2008 the wife said we needed to buy guns, so we bought guns and went through NRA training.

Man, oh, man! What I have been missing! I am glad to be back. I wish I had followed my son's lead earlier. As soon as I could, I bought an AR-15 because it was familiar to me. Now I have lots of rifles, a shotgun, pistols, a revolver, a gun safe, and an ammo locker. Woo-Hoo! And I joined a private gun range.

My friends followed my leave and now we have a grreat time together at the range. Even on a cold, wet day, if we are putting lead downrange, we are happy as a meadow lark.

I'm back.

Thanks to all for your hearty welcome. I should also report that I went to the Colorado Hunter Education class and passed with 100%. I purchased my hunting license and applied for deer, elk,a nd antelope tags. Now it is strange that in Colorado I have to have the hunter education class, but in my native state of Nebraska I don't. But I admit, the class had some good information and I am glad that I took it. I plan on taking more classes on specific animal hunting. I think a first aid class and survival class would be a good idea as well.

A+ on the 1st aide and survival, our hunting camp is 40 minutes to the nearest town and it only has a very small volunteer FD and we have to drive to the spot where there is 2 bars of cell service. Who knows what the response time for EMS would be. I am a nurse and I carry a small first aide kit in my fanny pack and more substantial med bag in my vehicle. and we all carry radios and do an hourly check in.
