303 British?
« on: April 16, 2010, 02:07:07 PM »
The 303 was originally issued as a black powder cartridge.  Anyone here loaded it as such?

Bob, never owned or loaded one with original gunpowder.  But you might be interested reading this ...

Check the collector's price for the round!

.303 British wasn't accepted as a BP cartridge round when I was in the muzzle loading game.  When first developed, cordite was not ready yet so ammo was loaded with specially compressed charges of BP.  The process I believe, can't be duplicated with handloading techniques.

Not to say that it can't be done, but tapered/necked cases with BP don't lead to accurate results in a lot of instances.
