Thanks Tracy those photos came out pretty good .

The Morko has shinned up nicely with scotchbright and steelwool . It should be ready for it's new home very soon .

Gary

My wooden base mortar has a pivot point now and swivels on the base when the brass locking pin is pulled .

Gary , hopefully enough mistakes and solutions will come out of that thread to make it easier for anybody to produce a good wheel.

Well ,my 4 dogs are all over 12 years with Sir Willie at 16 . So we cater to their needs .

THATS a promo for Colo. ! ::)

The closest water like that would be 'The Miricale Mile' in Wy. between Seminole and Pathfinder Res. .

Scuds w/ a dropper will hook some monsters there .

Of course 'monsters' here are minows in most places . We caught catfish in N.C. on Lake Norman that were bigged than any fish I've seen in Co.

11 Mile Res. does have some really big Lake Trout .

It shoots  ;D

Gulfcoast , I had the Morko all shinned up but machining it got it hot and the machine oil turned the whole thing black . I buffed it off with scochbright but left the dark in the crevases it gives much more definition .

If you want it bright and shinny I can do it but it looks much better this way .

Looks good!  Did you secure it to the pole, or is it just a press fit?  What's the final shape/size of the socket (I could measure, but since you just machined it, you should know it)?  More importantly, did you hit the target?  I don't know if you could tell with your eyes closed! ;D

I'm not sure if it's better with the dark accents in it or if it were all shiney.  I'm probably going to allow it to develop a nice patina, and I don't know how the black will be effected by this, but I don't think it matters.  I suppose it's best to just leave it with the accent - I could probably use a little brass polish to shine the whole thing up and let it patina if I didn't like it.

Oh, I forgot to ask - does the inscription you meant to have on it show up any better after cleaning it, or with the contrast of the black?

Yeah, more pictures would be nice, but if you can't get a camera, I can take care of that when I get it.

How'd you ignite it?  Fuse?

You closed your eyes like a girlie

Closing one's eyes is not being a girlie it is probably the most accurate representation of how they were fired I have seen.
especially when test firing it for the first time! there is an example of a German Bronze gonne that is in pieces so they did fail.

So I say to our undaunted Gonne tester Bravo! Bravo!
Mr president I do not cling to either my gun or my Bible.... my gun is holstered on my side so I may carry my Bible and quote from it!

These are the best close ups

I lit the pan with a fuse the pan lit the main charge . 25 grs 3f is all it was .

It takes .490 balls ,the socket is about 7/8" Dia and 1.5 deep . The 'Gulfcoast' inscription is gone .

I'll get my name on it /date tommorrow hopfully and in the mail asap .

I put a small hole in the socket for a screw to lock the pole . I think it would look sweet with a polygon (to fit) shaft to match the shape of the gun butt . Then flair the poly's into the pole .

Yeah, it looks great Gary!  I was planning on trying to make the shaft fit the shape at the joint.  Still not sure what else I will do with it, but I have access to my friend's lathe, and I like turning, but I'll have to keep myself from getting carried away.  I think a relatively simple design will look good with this.  Wouldn't want the pole to draw any attention away from the gonne, and it wouldn't look quite right with too ornate a shaft.

It feels and is so primitive to the point of "how could anyone value one shot so much ?" It is hummbling to be sure .

Once the shot is fired you will have a first rate skull crusher .

I would recomend no more than 30 grains for the first shots . After that your guess is as good as mine .

The suffering in Jebus's face is mostly powder burn . ;D

Dan,
Is the figure on the original gonne found off Sweden's coast really supposed to represent the image of Jesus, or are you guys just goofing around?

Gary,
I truly do admire how you've learned to manipulate the wax to form these bronze pieces, there's no question in my mind that what you have achieved should be regarded as a major accomplishment.

RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

just goofing around , there is no actual evidence that it is jesus
but as they think the writing is partly from the ave maria pray so I guess that it could have been jesus
