Howitzer designs and supply locations
« on: April 17, 2010, 04:39:28 PM »
I have looked through a ton of the old pages and pictures. There are incredible Howitzer pictures, but I have not found any barrel drawings for a Howitzer. Does anyone have their drawings?  I am thinking 3" OD and length may vary. Also, I read on one page that some guys were looking for scrap. Where is the most common place to find scrap for turning barrels? Any suggestions for places in Michigan? Thanks, greatly appreciated.

Which howitzer?

I have drawing of the Mt. Howitzer and the 24 PDR Flank howitzer and I think a 6 PDR field howitzer.

By the way if you have a picture if a barrel, just measure and scale the picture.

Very generous offer Guardsgunner , Barefiel , better to decide first which howitzer you want. The Brit 5.5 from Napoleonic era is pretty basic , looks not bad , and the carriage maybe not so much to build as the Frog , Prussian , Russian etc.You will get this on here all the time , " Give us a Clue " because there are just so many to choose from. attached a scan.

Ok, I really like the Howitzer Double D found. I have no doubt that I can figure out the measurements. I just thought it would be pretty cool to have a scale to work from. My other cannon pictures from last April do not represent a "true" cannon example. It was an incredible barrel from Dom and a carriage I made. Guardsgunner, sounds great, but to be honest I am not sure what that looks like.  Anyway, I am thinking along the lines of Double D's only 4"od x about 24"long. Roughly.

Oddly enough, my last build was in the spring. Must be a different form of spring fever.

The Gun I found was a Mt Howitzer and the best deal for you  for plans is AOP!  Take Guardsgunner up on his offer, you won't regret it!

The AOP folio also includes drawings of the carriage.

So I have started working on drawings for both barrel and carriage. The drawings I borrowed a are great at giving measurements and ideas. They are a little difficult to follow the carriage drawings.

I will do a better job of documenting this build than I did with my last. Thank you for the help!
