Question about a Taurus...

If you want it for carry then you want it in Total Titanium. Much lighter and easier to carry. Yes I'm pretty sure they make it in the Ti line. Check out the Taurus USA site, link on all of my review posts in this forum.

Nope don't think Taurus is making anything short without the ported barrels. My new 12" M44 isn't ported. But check the Taurus web site to be sure on this.

Here are your options in a non ported 2" revolver
9mm only 5 rounds though
22 mag 8 rounds
.17 HMR 8 rounds
Everything from .38 spl up is ported though. If you can live with the porting this THIS would fit the bill nicely :grin:

I believe they fit the same holster as the K or L frame not the N frame S&Ws.

You seem really opposed to the barrel porting. Each to his own, I think we all have our preferences. It ocurrs to me, that with the judicious use of a bottoming or plug tap, you could use some of the filler screws, used to fill sight holes in barrels, to plug the ports. A little time & effort would be all it would take. I don't know about the Ti,though. I don't think you could tap titanium. Maybe you could peen in some bird shot? Or, just fill the holes with epoxy, colored to match?

Chris I've really not noticed that porting matters on a revolver. The barrel/cylinder gap already makes it about as loud as it is gonna be and the flash from that same gap plus what comes out of the short barrels is gonna blind you at night no matter what. Ports just really don't seem to add to either problem in my experience and I've shot a lot in such conditions.

Porting does do it's job. My biggest concern with porting on a snubbie, is the 2" length of the barrel. The porting will change an already short barrel to a 1" barrel. These guns need all the help they can get in retaining vellocity and stabilizing bullets. Granted were talking about an across the room gun, but these guns are already minimum requirements to do the job at hand.

thanks for the replies guys, i'll check into them at the website.  does anyone know if the 7 shot Taurus .357's will fit in a S&W L Frame holster?

I have a 7 shot NONPORTED 617 357 Mag. It fits in the same holster as my 2¼" Ruger® SP101 5 Shot 357 Mag.

I'm EXTREMELY PLEASED with the fit, finish, accuracy, and performace of the Taurus® Mdl 617.

Ok guys, confession time.  i am a S&W man to the bone.  i dont think anything will ever change that but...  GB keeps telling me that i should try a new Taurus.  here is what i am wanting:  i want a 7 shot, 2" barreled, stainless steel, fixed sight gun, preferably a DAO model for wintertime concealed carry.  what model am i looking for?

also, is the gun i described available without porting?  every new Taurus i have seen as of late has been ported, and i hate porting on CC guns.  also, do they make the above gun i described in the Total Titanium line?  with porting or without?
