Here's the latest addition to the H&R Superlight collection, barrel is an older slim contour 22" model 158 30-30 barrel on an NC SB2 frame, scope rail is a modified Weaver #62 with a Leupold VX-II 2-7x32 in Burris extra low rings, hammer is the old style with a Win model 94 hammer extension, weighs 6lbs-8½oz. I may get out to the range Thursday or Friday depending on the weather which is not cooperating much, I want to shoot Rem 150gr and handloaded 125gr Nosler BTs, also gotta work a day of turkey hunting in there sometime too!

looks good , I like the black stock --It seem rugged too, I don't recall if you shot cast or not, but that should do well...... hope you have more good humting ..

Very nice Tim. My first Handi was a 158 30-30, the full stock version. Got it back in the eighties. Man how the time flies. My son carried it on his first deer hunt when he was 12. I haven't weighed it but it feels lighter than some of my newer ones. Shoots good too, I've used it in CBA single shot postal matches. Let us know how it shoots. Tim

Looks good Mr. Quick.I wish they still used the lower profile hammer, and no transfer bar.Simple seems to work better most of the time.

Love those light and handy 30-30's! Wish we could get other calibers (besides the .243) in a barrel profile like that! I'd dearly love a .308 or 7-08 as light as my old 158 30-30. 44 Man

Nice setup Tim, congrats, should shoot well. I have a model 157 with a 4x mounted in front of the hammer that is a pleasure
to carry compared to the newer model I have. Shoots 150 Rem corelocks very well. Fred

Now, well into my 7th decade of age, the lighter ones start to look better..and that's a winner. Let us know how it shoots and with what ammo. Obviously, an NEF has the advantage of using spires & spitzers also.

It looks like you had a bit of a challenge getting proper clearance for the hammer. It's worth it though, when you can keep a low mount and such a compact package. Really nice...

Tim, looks like a Sweet setup. Do you like the new style forend on the thinner barrel? Do the new Superlites come with the new forend if they've made any? Seems it would be big & long on a 20" barrel. Might not be as bad on your 22". Still wish they'd come out with a 22" SL barrel. That would be Handi

Here' my 260 Rem Superlight w/20" barrel, the new style stock and forend are the cat's meow IMO, I have 3 rifles with them. Someone else will have to answer that, I haven't seen a new Superlight, so I don't know if any other H&Rs are coming with them or not, I've seen one Ilion 45-70 at Wholesale Sports that had the old style stock.

IG, I did have to trim the very tip of the hammer spur just a little to make clearance for the hammer to swing back, but it wasn't bad at all, here's a close up pic.

Looks OK on the 20" I've only seen 44mag and 444 at G.M. with new style camo stocks. All other Handis there are wood.

I agree that the 30-30 being light works real well. While I have laminated stocks for mine, the barrel itself is the slimmest one I own. The muzzle is the smallest of any that I presently own; it was manufactured around '05-06 time frame. I do not have it here to measure, but I am thinking it is .700" at the muzzle, while my other barrels are in the neighborhood of .800" or larger. Not a super lite, but still lighter than a regular barrel. I am not sure that is normal for the 30-30 barrels, or they turned this one down a little more than normal.

I know you're gonna love that little rifle. I just got my first Handi .30-30 put together. It's on a SB2 frame, synthetic stock and open sights. I wonder why I didn't do it sooner. Good Luck, Tim.

Looks like I'm a day late getting to the party on this one. Being that I really like light, short, fast handling rifles, I gotta say nice work on this one Tim! Now add some 130 grain Barnes X bullets and your lil' 30-30 will be a tack driver.

No turkeys to shoot today, but did see 3 toms strutting in a field on the way, that was way cool!!! Too civilized to hunt them there tho, I'm sure the home owners nearby feed them. I did whack a greydigger(california ground squirrel) tho, he ran across an open hillside and ducked into his burrow as I was headed back to the barn, then he made the mistake of poking his head back out to see what the heck I was, unfortunate for him, he did it while I was about 45yds away, he ended up with a few #7 Federal Heavyweights thru the head!! I left him on his doorstep as a memorial for his kin, kinda like hanging a coyote on a fence post!!
