Lindsey Graham
« on: April 20, 2010, 12:54:05 PM »
Well, I don't know if I spelled his name right, but it is being reported that   Lindsey Graham the wobbly Republican Senator from South Carolina is a mo.  Some guy who used to be a Dumocrat, but now claims to not be one is saying he is outing Graham, because he believes that the Senator might be suseptible to being pressured to vote for things under threat of being exposed.

It wouldn't surprise me a lot, but this guy (Sen. Graham) is also some kind of officer in one of the reserve armed forces.  If the revelation turns out to be true, he should be tossed out of the service and his constituents will probably put a term limit on him.

He should be tossed out of the Republican Party for teaming up with John Effing Kerry and Joe Loserman to try to raise the federal gasoline tax.

It appears to be a wild accusation to discredit Graham.  His accuser (William Gheen) basically seems to say "There have been some rumors in the past that he is gay, and he's voting for stuff I don't like, so obviously he's being pressured to vote that way because he's gay!".

The whole thing seems pretty flimsy in general.  The reality is that it's looking like quite a possibility the Graham is likely going to make a run for the presidency next election, and his positions on immigration are unpopular with some in the Republican party, so they're doing their best to discredit him.

It's a shame.  Graham is a much more moderate Republican on many issues - but his support on all RKBA issues has been absolutely spot on (he's got an A rating from the NRA).  The reality is that we had a HUGE turnout for the last election - and the Democrats won.  Trying to win over the ultra-conservatives is preaching to the choir - those people voted Republican last time around to no avail.  You have to win over the people who voted Democrat last time around to swing this next election, and a more moderate candidate has a better chance of winning those people over.  Yes, I realize that McCain was seen as somewhat of a moderate as well, but you have to realize that we were coming off of the Bush Presidency that soured many people on the Republicans in general.  That in itself was going to tip things slightly to the other direction anyways.  This time we're coming off of the Obama presidency (hopefully anyways), which is by most accounts much worse than Bush, which means that a lot of people are going to be shifting a bit closer to the Republicans in general.  Again though, those people that shift just a little aren't likely to vote for the extremes.  By simply looking at a bell curve (which tends to be what most good statistics boil down to) the vast majority of the population is sitting closer to the middle of the road.

Weeellllll let's see. He seems to be FOR the bailouts, and is FOR amnesty for illegals, is AGAINST putting the trail lawyer lobby out. Mr. Graham is a typical Republican. He is all over the map, and has been described as a GENERIC CONSERVATIVE.

Ya, he is all over the cap and trade crap too! You don't have to make wild accusations about Graham to discredit him, just look at his record and listen to his comments. He is one in a list of progressive Republicans that need to be kicked to the curb come election time. He is actually pretty high on that list.

Another reasonable post?!?!  Man oh man, get ready to get attacked by that same group of, "ultra-conservatives" yourself.  Thinking, moderation, and anything even remotely viewed as math are unacceptable to that group.

You are right, but you're making the correct argument to the wrong audience.

I don't think we have a bell curve anymore in this country ... we have a two humps model, which is also a viable and common statistical model when analyzing a disparate data population. This means when you simply average the numbers it appears as though we have an overwhelming moderate camp, when in fact what we have are two very strong and polar opposite camps. And its getting worse, the saddle is shrinking as folks are moving further from the center in both directions. The power base in the GOP is moving right, while the power base in the Dem is moving even further left, so campaign funding, communication strategies, etc. will not go to the moderate candidates of either party. The idea that we're a nation of moderates is a communication strategy being promulgated by media outlets, but it doesn't take much research to find its increasingly less true. Its a popular notion among party firsters though, who feel their influence in their party giving way to idealists. If Mr. Graham has a run at the Presidency, he would be a rallying point for the anti-Tea Party GOPers.

For any political analysis to make sense, the words "moderate" and "hard-line" must be defined.  My definition of moderate would probably be pretty hard-line to a lot of folks.  But I have to look to my left to see Rush Limbaugh.

I've got field mice that you could make that same statement about as compared to congress and the current administration as well.

Dee, yeah those eyes kinda sealed the deal when we picked him up at the pound.

And I regret the poor comparison to congress; that was truly beneath his capabilities. He is smarter than some of the neighborhood kids I know ...  ;D

He lost my vote when he went along with Obama's racist supreme court nominee.  She was openly against the white male and because she was a Hispanic female, nothing was said.  In fact, when her record was expossed Graham question her about it and voted for her anyway.  He lost my vote for that alone.
