What WAS I thinking!?
« on: April 20, 2010, 01:19:48 PM »
Had 2 cases in court the other morning.  Two scrap dealers were buying copper without getting ID from the seller or recording the purchase.  Talked to their lawyers for a bit, naturally they wanted a deal.   ::)  I reset it for a hearing and ran them off... on to the next case.

Then it dawned on me!  Scrap DEALERS!  Scrap LEAD!!   :o  All of a sudden a wave of forgivness came over me.  I realized that maybe I had been a little hasty in my treatment of these poor fellows!  I mean, after all, anybody can make a mistake!  But, alass, they had already left the courtroom...  :(

 ;) :D

Sounds like an Ethics Excersize for your baby lawyers.
After all if these were two stock brokers you would not hit them up for stock tips.
If they were bankers you would not give them a slap on the wrist if they gave you a better interest rate.
I would just ask if they deal in Lead and now have a source for casting and make a deal that they would get if you did not use any recycled Materials.
The one time I was in trouble with the Law I hired a lawyer and we talked the procicuter down only to have the judge over rule the plea.  The judge said he could see reducing the charge if I could give them someone who was worse than me.  Being a good guy that made a stupid mistake I get the book thrown at me but if I were a scumbag that hung out with other scumbags, I could have gotten a reduced sentence.  That never made sence to me.
But Quid Pro Quo does not sound like a good thing.
Hey I have a question Why is it a prococuter can say;
Do this or else I will do that and that is a plea bargin.
I tell a person Do this or i will do that and it is extortion?

That it is!  I can kid about it here, but in the real world I stress personal integrity.  Nothing is worth it's sacrafice.  nothing!  I will not tolerate even the appearence of impropriety from them...   >:(

Hey I have a question...

One is legal the other isn't!   ;D  And, like baby lawyers with improprieties, sometimes it's hard to tell the difference!   :-\

maybe he's/she is practicing for public office!

Ah yes... The time honored political tradition of graft and corruption!  There's only an election's worth of difference between a ton of lead and a ton of money!   :D

Of course I'm only talkin a few hundred pounds of wheelweights here...  :-\  That's not really graft!   ::)  Wait!  Isn't that the same as your girlfriend being just a "little bit" pregnant!?   :P

Ain't no doubt about it!   ;D  That's the way defense lawyers think!   :D  But I have the luxury of being able to treat everyone the same therefore I can never be accused of favoritism.

But sometimes it hurts...  :-\  I had to go to trial on this young dancer once for a bunch of public indecency type charges.  The jury found her guilty.  Later that year I got a Christmas Card from the defense attorney who represents a number of "clubs" here in Atlanta.  The card contained a picture of him literally covered in dancers.  Huge smile on his face.  He wrote on the bottom of the picture, "You may have won the trial, but I got invited to the Christmas Party!"   ::)

Caught it from all directions on that one didn't ya Richard? :D

Darn sure did didn't I!   ;D  I knew when I typed it that would happen but I couldn't help myself!   :D

Dang it. Since I live a little North of Atlanta I was thinking that if I headed down that way I would just carry a bucket a wheel weights in the trunk in case I got in trouble.
