Questions on Stock Interchangeability
« on: April 20, 2010, 06:27:30 PM »
Scrolling through H&R's online catalog last night, and I had an idea (dangerous, I know!) - does anyone know if the stock from a Topper Trap Gun (12 ga) would fit onto an SB2 Handi receiver?  I only ask because I want a walnut pistol grip stock for mine.

I would call H&R and ask, but I don't want to have to stay up all night - the time difference from where I'm at (Korea) is a killer;)

All H&R stocks fit all of the their single shots made since 1987, but if you want a walnut pistol grip, get the Topper Deluxe Classic stock, it's checkered walnut.

As is the Topper Trap Gun stock; it appears to have a more glossy finish and a different recoil pad than the Topper Deluxe stock.

Thanks for the info!

Pictures cant really show color or gloss, etc. for anythng other than what was clicked at the time, then reproduced through the various mediums we view.
If it does turn out to be more 'glossy' than you like then rub it down with rottenstone, or such, to a more satin finish.
That trap stock seems to have more 'flare' stylisticaly, and if I had one I would have tried it on a rifle. The architecture of a trap gun, to get on target, may work well for a hunting rifle too. I know I have read of some match rifle shooters who have had their rifles stocked similar to their shotguns and liked them a lot.

The TDC trap gun stock also appears to have a bit of a monte carlo rise to it. I spoke with CS a couple weeks ago to find out the availability, He said there weren't any in stock right now. I could try back in a month or so or just order some and when they get them in stock they wood ship them. I did get the parts numbers and prices.

Here are some actual pics of the Topper Trap, as usual the H&R website pics don't do it justice, appears to have the typical proud fit to me, but not as bad as in the past.  ;)

Not only are the pics decent, but the forum comment regarding the Trap model are revealing. Tim, have you considered posting those links on the H&R Shotgun forum too?

Thanks for the info; I'll be in the States next week, and will likely call and order the stock, at any rate.

The pix on those reviews show some pretty wood; hope the one I get looks that nice!

I agree I recently traded for a kinda beat up synthetic stocked 45-70. Cleaned it up and put the stock set off my TDC 20ga and now she's a good lookin gun. I want to get a set of the TDC trap stocks the fore arm looks beefier also.

Now I was thinking the Trap buttstock and the BC or Carbine forestock in matching walnut would look mighty handsome.

Thats a great idea. I think it would be the carbine forend for me. All of my rifles with the exeption of one of my 45-70s have schnable forends. I think it gives them more of a classic look.

Actually, that's my plan; to me, the BC is just crying out for a pistol grip stock!  This means I'll have to inlet another vernier rear sight, but that's okay.

This guy has some really nice stocks also, including thumbhole.  I'm planning on picking up the MonteCarlo style with a limbsaver pad added by him in the black/grey laminate with the varmint style forearm.  8)  If you use a scope, his roll-over montecarlo is a nice stock also.  He has a camoflaged one in the odds-n-ends section with a manlicher full length fore-arm.  I'm sure it could be cut down though if desired. ;)
