P250 Has Me Stumped
« on: April 21, 2010, 02:58:33 PM »
I had posted earlier about problem with feeding of 200 SWC(Lyman 452460)..  I thought my issue must be an overall lenght issue... thanks to feedback from some kind folks I found the correct length and proceeded again... the newly assembled ammo fed flawlessly thru my Springfield V16, but the SIG is a different "ani-Mule"!

Let me clarify, I have not even tried to fire any rounds, I'm just running them thru by hand... Here's what's happening... the first round chambers flawlessly into an empty chamber from the clip... when I try to cycle(by hand) I cannot pull the slide back more than about 3/4" before it hits "something"... if I drop the clip out the slide will easily come back and eject the unfired round...obviously something is amiss...

I may try to fire a few rounds tomorrow night to see if the problem only occurs when manually operating the slide.. but I think it is pretty futile.

Any thoughts? Other than go buy another mold...(I have loaded and shot 200 gr hollowpoints with no problem)  but I just aquired the 4 cavity Lyman 452460 and I would hesitate to change too quickly.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Disassemble the gun and look at the under part of the slide.  Are there any flat surfaces that would hit the hard rim of the SWC that a round  nose bullet would ride under?  If so it is the bullet shape that is the problem and you need something with a contour rather than that nice hard ring that cuts pretty round holes.

mcwoodduck,

Nothing "jumps out" at me.. may try putting some black on underside to see exactly where it is hitting... the bullets are showing a line that runs from the edge of the meplat, down the length of the ogive till it meets the mouth of the casing... obviously hitting on something.. but don't understand why it functions ok on the first round placed in the chamber either from cycling with slide open or closed before inserting clip...  The marks are there so the first round is hitting, but obviously not as hard as when there is loaded round in the clip not allowing it to cycle...

You may be very right about the shape...too late tonight to mess with it... will try again tomorrow...

Thanks for your feedback,.

May be how the spring is hitting the rounds and it has the 1st round at a more nose down where the next round is more tail down.
Close the slide.  Insert the mag and cycle the gun.  If it hits drop the mag, clear the round from the chamber, and let the slide go forward with the first round out of the mag and on to the second reinsert the mag and cycle the slide.  Did it hit?

Thanks again mcwoodduck,

It is still hitting.  I've tried marking brass,  and any areas I see that may contact... removed the barrel and inserted loaded clip to visualize orientation of loaded round... I did try to cycle the SWC by firing, and as I expected it jammed, the fired casing did not clear the weapon and it appeared to be hitting the next loaded round in the magazine... if so, it may be the angle of the bullet and will I will just have to feed the Sig a diet of something else for practice rounds.

it still has me baffled... I haven't put 100 rounds thru the pistol yet, perhaps it just has to be broken in more( Ihave a few hundred hollowpoints that I can load up for that)... the hollowpoints that function in it feed ok, but don't cycle as smoothly as my older V16..

Thanks again for your help.

Does it work with Round nose bullets?  If so.  Sorry you need to get soem lead round nose projectiles and use them.

The hollowpoints I have are somewhat rounded... and work fine... I guess I'll look for a new round ball mold or buy a few bullets first and try before making an investment in a mold... thanks for your input.
