Assuming the club is still willing to prepare the range for an August shoot, I think you should go ahead with it. Of all the people who attended the last one in Cut Bank, only one was relatively close to Virginia and his transmission failed before in made it. Virginia is a lot farther away for everyone else and I don't think a shoot there (or even two shoots) would draw away many people from Cut Bank.

Mike and I really liked the Montana Shoot in 2009 and believe you should make a good effort to convince the club to hold one this year. Mike and I are going to finish our 7" Treble-Banded Brooke Seacoast and Navy Rifle before the shoot and will be displaying this tack-driving, armor-piercing, brute at the Montana Shoot for the very first time publicly. We will also be shooting a Dominic built, 1/6 scale, 9" Dahlgren Shell Gun with Seacoast Artillery sights, lock and elevation gear.

I have every intention of coming, and bringing some people (non-cannon owners) as well. As soon as you set a date it will go on my calendar of stuff I HAVE to do this summer...

It's official the Club has voted to allow the Cannon shot. Here is the tentative agenda

Cut Bank Cannon Convention II August 20-21, 2011

Model Cannon shot for antique and replica Cannons under ½ scale.

Saturday August 20,

•   Range set up day.

•   Test fire and demonstrations

Sunday August 21 structured shoots.

•   South African Miniature Cannon Club match for guns .75 caliber and under-25 yards.

•   Test match SAMCC for guns over .75-100 yards.

•   Hole in one contest for golf ball mortars-par 3 hole.

•   Demonstration shoot of cannon used in the movie “Master and Commander-Far Side of the World.*tentative

•   Demonstration shoot of Nepalese Bira Gun.*tentative

•   Siege of Fort Pallet.

This is the same weekend as the Montana Fun Weekend held at the Cut Bank Airport adjacent to the range. http://www.cutbankairport.org/montana-fun-weekend

Just for the record, this is a biennial event and the next shoot in Montana will be in 2013...if the wife doesn't kill me before.

Also for the record the agenda of events is not set in stone, it's written on paper and can be changed.

For instance, it has been suggest we have cancer cell shoot. We will do that. I am not satisfied with just shooting cancer cell targets, I will try and figure a way to collect some money for the Cancer association for that. We have a club officer who has pancreatic cancer and appears to be be winning his fight...Maybe I can get him to fire the first shot.

It's a long drive from the way down in the Southern part of Colorado but it would most likely be very well worth the drive.

Long drive yes for a weekend, but make it a vacation trip--Little Big Horn Battle field on the way up-Glacier National Park while you are in the area, the Big Hole Battlefield, Yellowstone on the way back

Since the Montana Fun Weekend is the same weekend and less than a mile away, maybe some promotion there would bring some outsiders over to fire a shot against cancer for a small fee. Promotion something like a cannon firing blanks at a C cell target. It would get attention just from the noise.

At CBCCUno, we scheduled a Braai on Sunday. We did a pick up braai on Saturday. We will do it again and braai both nights! BYOM, potluck side dishes. I am picking up some boerwors and will toss that on the grill...Mike it well be tested for well done htis time, before it comes off the grill.

Glad to hear that Cut Bank is the place to be in August. We are also glad to see that the New River Valley shoots are shaping up as well. Although we won't be able to make it to Virginia this year, we will be making deliveries in the mid-west and New England and may even make it to Canada this year to visit Halifax and other points of interest. Lets see now, who do we know in Northern Maine where we can leave our cannons before we cross the border??

Thanks for your efforts, Double D. We can see the Brooke seacoast rifle blowing up water jugs at 200 yards already!!! And the siege of Fort Pallet sounds intriguing. We might just bring the 1797, 4" mortar up there for that. The old time members remember how accurate that was during the BINGO Shoot. A solid hit from a 9 lb. cast iron shot should send pieces flying!

I need some numbers to work with.

How many of you are considering coming to Montana for the CBCCII. I am not looking for a commitment. Things happen and plans change and suddenly you may or may not be able to come. If you are even considering attending, I would like to know.

It is helpful to be able tell perspective sponsors some idea of how many folks might be here so they can determine if it might be worth their while to also attend display their wares, or just send catalogs--or ignore us.

It is also especially useful when I ask sponsors to donate door prizes. We had enough door prizes at the first shoot that everyone entered got something.
