How well can you shoot your golf ball mortar?

At the cannon  shot we are going to have a hole in one contest.  A cup will be placed on the range with a Par 3 distance.  Most reference I find say Par 3 is maximum 250 yards, so the cup will be less tha 250 yards.

The local Ben  Franklin store is donating $100 as starting pot...entry is by buy 5 ball for $5, with that entry fee going in the pot.  The first person to score a hole in one splitting the pot with the  Club.

Using HMR to try and get up and running for GB motaring.  I'm tool rich, time poor and money somewhere in between so I guess it's time to sub-contract.

Question I have is about these 5 balls... are they regular golf balls or poured zinc or lead or steel or shooters choice or just what...??

Are you going to have some sort of a flag to mark where the cup is? Kinda like a orange bike flag on a pole or something or other? The cup could be kind of hard to see if there are old codgers with diminished eyesight shooting.  ::)

Also... standard size golf hole cup or something a little larger??

Based on my mortar shooting observations I think the odds are with the house/club...  :D

Don't know yet, depends on if the golf club will loan me a cup or not.

If you haven't yet made your motel reservations you probably need to do that now.  The weekend of the cannon shoot is also the Cut  Bank Airport fun days and rooms might be at a premium.

Also plan ahead.  You will be allowed to drive to the firing line to unload you cannons and equipment.  You will be required to remove your vehicle  from the firing line  and park in the parking lot behind the range before anyone can shoot.

Mike and I are really looking forward to this shoot immensely.  Take his room reservation info seriously.  We didn't last time and camped out in downtown Cut Bank's park the first night.  The train traffic is brutal if you are not accustomed to the noise!

When you come to Cut  Bank here are some of the sights to see.

Plains Indian Museum http://www.blackfeetcountry.com/museum.html

North American Indian Days http://www.blackfeetcountry.com/naid.html

Sweet Grass Hills http://www.montanapictures.net/sweetgrass-hills-montana.htm

Remington Carriage Museum http://www.remingtoncarriagemuseum.com/

Charlie Russell Museum http://www.cmrussell.org/exhibitions/permanent/

Glacier National Park  http://www.nps.gov/glac

You will also be about 30 miles south of the US-Canada border. For information on crossing the border check here. http://www.getyouhome.gov/

You will also need to know that Canada has restrictive firearms law and they are very serious about them. Try to take a handgun or hangun ammo into Canada and you may be arrested. At least you will be fined and loose your gun.  And don't think you can hide it from them, they train their dogs to find guns.

The other thing that can get you in trouble going into Canada is if you have ever been arrested. More than one traveler has been turned back for a DUI arrest years ago.

Another good reason to come to the cannon shoot is this my be the last year that Cut  Bank has only one stop light.  The are building a new overpass over the rail road tracks at the west end of town.  They haven't said there will be a stop light there yet, but it only seems logical.

This kind of BS is why I no longer travel in Canada.

Today's high was 89 degrees her in Cut  Bank.  Up in Glacier  park 70 miles away they were skiing.

It's looking like it might be a sorcher this year.

Well Douglas, it looks as if you can look forward to the terrific trio arriving in Cut Bank, MT on Thursday, 18 August 2011.  We will help out as requested hauling targets, etc. to the range on Friday, and of course setting up those bulletproof shields between your famous, wild-recoiling 42 Pounder, and all the other cannon.   ;D    Seriously though we are really looking forward to staying at the Glacier Inn once again.  That place has Serious AC and stays as cool as it would be if actually situated on a Glacier.  Can't wait to send a few Brooke bolts through that fort pallet.  Can you say, "Splinter Hazard!!"?

Tracy

PS  No need to thank me for giving you an extra 'c' to use to make sourcher a really HOT! word.  I was working on my stamp collection in the Soviet Block section and found a CCCCP reference which, of course, is wrong.  I reduced that Russian acronym reference to the U.S.S.R. by one 'c', leaving it corrected to CCCP and gave the extra 'c' to you.  I see that you used it already.  Good.  We will bring plenty of water!

Glad to hear that Cut Bank is the place to be in August.   We are also glad to see that the New River Valley shoots are shaping up as well.  Although we won't be able to make it to Virginia this year, we will be making deliveries in the mid-west and New England and may even make it to Canada this year to visit Halifax and other points of interest.  Lets see now, who do we know in Northern Maine where we can leave our cannons before we cross the border??

Thanks for your efforts, Double D.  We can see the Brooke seacoast rifle blowing up water jugs at 200 yards already!!!  And the siege of Fort Pallet sounds intriguing.  We might just bring the 1797, 4" mortar up there for that.  The old time members remember how accurate that was during the BINGO Shoot.  A solid hit from a 9 lb. cast iron shot should send pieces flying!

Mike and Tracy

Sorry Mike and Tracy I completely missed this one.  Of course you need to stop and visit if you are going to in my area.  I can also house and feed anything that will not make the trip "over home".
