Change.  People love it.  People hate it.  Those who refuse to recognize it are bulldozed by it. Spuddy, we will not be able to take you up on your kind offer this year.  Due to picking up another 7" Brooke customer in Alabama, we had to change our delivery trip itinerary to include Iowa, New York and Alabama.  However, we may possibly go on a mid-summer research trip in 2012 which would include OH, PA, MD, DE, VA, DC, NJ, NY, New England, (including Presque Isle, Maine) and locations in Nova Scotia.

In the interest of economy we will take Mike's Camry north this year, so the 1/2 scale 8" siege mortar is out, but Ft. Pallet can expect a bombardment from the pop can Coehorn, Gary's steel golf ball Parrott and the steel bolt Brooke.  The 200 yard capability of the 1.167" bore Brooke will depend on what we can do on Friday and Sat..  We won't have two seconds to practice before the trip.

Montana or Bust!

Mike and Tracy
Smokin' my pipe on the mountings, sniffin' the mornin'-cool,
I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

It's a month until the shoot and the temperature is in the 90's.  So why not crank some zinc 6 PDR.  7 hours later I have 19 balls...Friday this mould is going Rotometals and I am never casting another 6 PDR.

Did you keep the sprue liquid with a second torch?

Now you see why I think you need a casting table.   ;D  And some serious shade.

And do you need more zinc now?

George,

We did not have a small torch to use,  We had a heck of time with metal temperature.

Don't bring me any metal.  From now on I will have Rotometals cast all my zinc round ball.

Things you should bring to the shoot.

Sun screen.  We are at 3800 feet elevation and you will burn a lot easier than at lower elevation
Hat
Folding chairs.
Cooler full of water and cold drinks.  No Alcohol on the Range
Lunch

The is a porta potty on the range.

The range is across the highway from the the Cut  Bank International Airport. During the cannon shoot the  Airport will be holding their annual fun days.  http://www.cutbankairport.org/montana-fun-weekend/  They will have food snack and beverage booths.

Saturday and Sunday evening after we are through shooting for the day we will hold a braai in my back yard,  It will be pot luck-BYOM-BYOB.  I will provide the finest paper and plastic dinnerware.  Since most of you  are traveling, the local Albertson's has a deli where you can buy stuff.    Bring your chairs.

George, are you going to set up zinc casting on Friday?

Mike will be in charge of cooking brats.

George, are you going to set up zinc casting on Friday?

Probably unless there are more pressing things needed to get ready for Saturday.  You still have the propane torch I bought for CBC2 I to keep the sprues liquid?

No biggie.  I will be bringing an electric start one this time for fuse lighting.  But the casting is less important than getting the range ready.

Changes!!!!!

1st change.  The assault on Fort Pallet has been changed to the an assault on Fort Privy.  We have 4 left over from the race track days-- porta potties.   We will move one on the range and shoot it up.

2nd change, best for last.  The pot for the Hole in one contest will go to the first person who sink a hole in one--the entire pot. The pot will not be split with the club.  The club only gets the pot if no scores a hole on one.  Even then the club will keep and use the money for two years until CBCC III when the pot rolls over.

Back to the original plan....we ain't shooting no Ft. Privy.  They are made of heavy plastic and I am just afraid that the balls from the cannons will bounce back.

So tomorrow I start collecting  pallets.

Just cut out a round of cardboard, make a face on it with my name on it and staple it to a stick. Push it into the ground by the metal and say "Mark presents this to you".    ;D

Speaking of ordering powder, do we want to order a 25 pound case delivered to CBC2 II and divide it?

I would think we need to order by next Friday to be reasonably certain of receiving it before the 20th.

I'll have to pass this year. Maybe in a few years after I retire I'll be able to attend the shoot and will put in an order for my share of the powder. If I ordered it for this year and didn't show up; the powder probably wouldn't last until I got there because someone would burn it. Enjoy yer shootin'!
