Gary's 60 Lb. Bronze Thunder Mug was the 'Opening Gun'.  WOW, that thing was loud!!  He told me he will  use a bit more fuse next time.  He missed a beautiful smoke ring that went up 50 or 60 feet.

Double D. in fine form as he fires his 42 Pdr. Naval Gun.

Neff Cannons brought some beautiful field guns and mortars to the shoot.

The 7" Brooke scores a bullseye at 40 yards to get sighted in. Video Clip:  Click on IMAGE.

An absolute dead center bullseye at 100 yards was scored here.  This was after missing a water jug at 140 yards by two inches under.  We sprayed it with rock fragments abd sent the 'leaker' rolling down the hill. Video clip; Click on IMAGE.

I amd working on a compressed video of the shot.  I it will be a whole before it's ready.

In the mean time here is a highlight from the video.  The Seacoast guys brought out some water filled jugs to shoot. Rocklock1 hit one with smooth bore Parrot by Dom  Carpenter.  Seacoast Artillery hot two with there  Brooks rifle.  I hat one with the junk yard dog 6PDR Mortar.  Here is a video of my hit.

Apparently the video camera function of my digital still camera suck the power and the brand new batteries I put in the camera were drained in 23 minutes...the siege lasted 60 minutes.  I was however to get you a 6:06 long video consolidation the shots picked up on camera.

I changed the highlight link from last night to the full video. Here is the full length video again.

Fort  Pallet was heavily damage but not breached!!!

Fort Pallet will again be taken under siege in 2 years at CBCC III.

Rumor has it that the forces of evil are planning on establishing a smaller outpost closer to friendly lines that will have to be take under fire by small guns before the big fort can be invested....

It's a good thing that the Evil Empire's Outpost was unmanned because the investors had a real problem even hitting the fort, let alone the surrounding guns.   >:(

My personal thought is ..... every thing was so laid back that every one was trying  to exterminate the vermin (AKA Gophers)surrounding the Fort . I told my crew to let the lessor guns have fun while we hung back for the final termination .

Unfortunately  wind , an ill wind @ that , blew our previous days carefully measured, finely tuned  calculated hit zone plum out of the picture .

The second hour of shooting  brought about better results , as a few of the cannon shooter had softened up the top support . As a result my heavy mortar took off quite a bit  the top of fortress .

We drove the rats to ground if not to submission .

That's my story and I'm sticking to it .  ::)

Have to add : I loved meeting the new faces , and enjoyed  renewing  contact with the old .  Fun to finally put faces to names on the board.

Beware : DD  has the making's for a killer BB Mortar in my Shed . It may take 2 years to complete it but , it will be a killer force against the Evil Empire protected Fort Pallet and the Black Flag Flying scoundrels  there in !

Well Asron87 and brother Cory should be home by now, but haven't checked in yet, let me know if you made it.

George and Pat should be roller skating in the buffalo herd to day.

Gary and the Seacoast guys should be some where between Billings and Colorado...

Rick and Nolan are home, I heard from Rick already.

Last I hear Mike and Jody were headed to the Taft farm...

Check in  folks and let me know you made it.

Wished I could have come Doug. But we are getting ready to put our house on the market = De clutter the house AKA pack up all stuff not being used RIGHT NOW. I use everything all the time. We are going to be going back up to Post Falls Idaho and look at more houses up there. Doug that would put me a good 3 hours closser to you. I told Al and his son David about the cannon shoot so I hope some guys from AL'S Diesel there in Cut Bank showed up. David was down here for a week finishing a fence that Al and I and Brian started last summer. I told him about the shoot in detail.

I haven't posted in quite a while.  I would like to thank Double D for setting this up.  Rick and I have never participated in a shoot and this exceeded all of my expectations.  I am planning on having a cannon of my own for the next shoot.  I am thinking a Naval gun.

I was nice to put faces to the names that I read on this sight.

Thanks again Double D.

Funny you bring that up about his big lathe or should I say LATHES. I'm working on it with him.Give me time. Also told Kirby about the shoot  in the hopes he would show up with his Black powder muzzel loading BB Howitzer. His trailer axle is bent or somthing. He rubbed of the tread on a new tire in 10 to 15 min. Not sure if it is fixed now. I been bussy trying to get out of the Tri-City's and to Post Falls Idaho.

Well, we found Ernie's place on Monday afternoon by looking for the cannon in the front yard, stayed a bit and then headed home. You won't be finding Ernie's place by looking for the cannon any more as the "barrel" rode home with us when we left. Wife wants a bb mortar and, in this case anyway :) , whatever she wants she gets.
Ernie was the perfect host and showed me his toys, I was good and kept my hands in my pockets just like Dad taught me.
I feel bad reading about everyone's long trip, we were home and in the recliner about 8:00 Monday evening.
We had a wonderful time and I want to thank everyone that showed up.

Thanks, Double D. for hosting such a wonderful shoot.  The Seacoast boys had a great time and Mike and I were jabbering all the way to Broomfield about what we could build for the next one that would bring the fort down before Ernie's expert crew had a chance to get the range and bring it down with his very accurate Bowling Ball Mortar.  I will try to post a couple movies tomorrow;  I'm too beat tonight.

Well I heard that George didn't get et by the Yellowstone Grizzly's.

I am already brain storming the forts for CBCC III...yes forts, plural, more than one.  End of the day one a fort for the  Small guns and the big fort on Sunday...

Now you don't think I am going to sit by idly  and build another fort like the one before, even though you didn't destroy it?

Let the arms race begin.

I made it safely to school the day after the shoot. I drove all 16 hours of it myself, Beltbuckle81 (Corey) did what brothers do best and slept most of the drive to Beulah where we parted ways. I unpacked, slept for an hour or two, then packed for college. All I can say is the trip was worth every second. I came home with a completely different outlook about cannons (I need bigger bores).

The first day of college whet great and he even said some students have made cannons before. So this means I'll end up with a high power gb cannon and a bb mortar. I'll have two years of machining classes in before the next cannon shoot so that pretty much means I better get some target practice in.

I'd like to give a special thanks to DD for putting this on, to everyone else who answered any of my million questions, Dom for donating the cannon I won, Mike and Tracy for the books that I "won", southpaw and rocklock for letting us sneak in between you two at the shoot, and southpaws wife for the rhubarb cake and the cookies we snagged from dd before we left.

Thanks again,
Aaron

I think this clip will be of some interest to the folks who like to see results for their expenditure of powder and shot.  I saw holes in the fort's front wall from many calibers including .50" SS, 1.00" SS, 1.167" BRK Bolt, 1.687" SS GB Parrott, and Bowling Ball damage.  2.6" Dia.Concrete filled cans and 6 Pdr. Zinc SS littered the ground around the fort, but no penetrations of roof timbers were noted.  Two dents  in roof boards that were likely from 6 Pdr. SS from a mortar were also seen.

The flagpole had one rather large gouge on the north facing edge about two and a half feet above the ground.  It looked very much like a Brooke bolt that hit side ways after ploughing through six or seven pallet surface boards as most shots seemed to do.

The most damage was from 3 or 4 well placed Bowling Ball hits.  Before all of you aspiring fort destroyers go out and make 10 pin howitzers or mortars remember this:  the arms race ALWAYS includes the products of the gun maker AND the armor designer.  Can your Bowling Ball go through a pallet facade supported by a well anchored railroad tie wall joined by 2 X 4s?  Sorry, No.

No  6PDR's hit the fort.

If you want to look at the video from the shoot search YouTube for Cut Bank Cannon.  You will find the videos I put up and a video from the 2009 shot put up by cannonfuse.com.

If you put up a video to YouTube of the shoot include Cut Bank Cannon in the title and folks will be able find it.
