Scope on Remy 798 in 308win

Well my new Redfield scope came in for my new Rem 798 mauser action. Cant seem to find a one piece mount for rings and the two piece weaver style is spread so far that an extension ring will be needed to mount the scope. Dont really wanna use an extension if I dont have to. Any body have any Ideas ?  ???

i just used weavers on mine. just bought it last week. same as yours, is your synthetic or wood?

Its wood laminate, very nice looking greenish color. I put the Weavers on it and ordered a Redfield 3x9 with 50 mm objective. Problem is that Regular rings wont catch the scope right, like the scope is too short.

 I took the rings off this rifle:


and they seem to work because one is extended but they are a "hook and saddle type" and I'm worried that they may not hold up with the 308 recoil. They do ok on the 223 but just not sure about the 308.

I'll post a pic soon. Its hard to believe that there isnt a one piece mount made for it but I cant find it if there is.

Since it's exactly the same rifle as the Interarms Mauser wouldn't a mount for an Interarms fit?

UTG makes a steel one piece with a bunch of slots for $24.95.  They are on eBay.

OK here is some pictures of the mauser Remington. You can see why the extension rings are needed.







Now the angle makes the scope look like its is on the barrel but its the angle trust me.

Well Saturday was a boonedoggle! those pics above were before I tried to boresight it! Couldn't get it to boresight, ran out of  right windage adjustment. Brought it to a gunsmith in town and he said the mounts were bad. We found some leupold mauser mounts (2 piece) with windage adjustment and all was fixed!

Now you're talkin'!  That is a sharp looking rig you have now.  I have an old M700 30-06 from the 1960s with a very similar stock, same rings and bases, and a Leupold M8 4X scope.  It makes a terrific all around rifle for any kind of hunting I will ever do.

Two mule deer taken earlier this century.  The '06 is on the left.  Not the best view of the gun but you can see the similarity.  (Deer on the right was taken with .444 Marlin.)



I'd say you are in business with your new set-up.

Yea those stocks are very similar.

I really like this rifle didn't know what to expect from the Mauser action but trusted Remington.

I was a little concerned when I couldn't find mounts and rings to fit it but all's well that ends well.

Its bore sighted and hitting paper at 100 now so i'll get out the lead sled and see how it'll group.

Them are all great looking rifles.  I love Remington and Marlin products.  I'm glad you got your mounts sorted out.  Tell us about your Redfield scope.

So far so good, I bought it to try the "redfield/ leupold" product. Shot it this am and it grouped well 1.5 in. at 100 on a sand bag. I'll get it on the led sled and see what it can do with less of my "interference"  ;).  The Test for the scope will be how it does in the feeder lights on hogs at night.
