Sticky CZ527 magazine
« on: April 22, 2010, 05:31:06 AM »
Just purchsed a CZ527 in .22H. It shoots great but the magazine is fairly hard to get out. It takes a considerable amount of tugging to get it out. The release mechanism is working properly. Has anyone else had this problem and if so any ideas about a possible cure?

The magazine in every 527 I've ever seen was balky, but they do get better with use. The mechanism is not very ergonomically designed, so it may be a case of, after a while you just get used to it.

It wouldn't hurt anything to disassemble the gun and polish the inside of the magazine  receptacle box, there might be a burr somewhere.

I think once you shoot the gun, you'll forgive its small faults. If not, drop me a line, I just love mine.

Thanks Joe for the advice. This is my third CZ527 so I am a little familiar with the model. This particular rifle is exceptionally sticky. I have polished the inside and the little nubs on each end of the magazine. Also I have used a light coating of lube. It is better but as far as a quick drop is concerned, you can forget it. My others are also a little sticky but not as bad as this one. I just may have to try another mag. As much as I like the CZ products, it seems the quality control is not the same as it was 10 years ago. My 7.62x39 felt like there was gravel in the action till I spent a couple hours polishing it.

Yea, I know what you mean. My .223 was fitted properly, but had some annoyances. Last winter I replaced the trigger guard with an m2(?) unit, which reduced capacity to 3+1, replaced the tall scope mounts, jeweled the bolt, and smoothed and coated the bore. The new trigger guard was not a drop-in part, it took considerable fitting to get it to work smoothly. So much that I decided to glass the now loose action. Of course, lowering the scope meant grinding off part of the bolt handle, and re-bluing. Cold blue for now, I'll wait for better weather to run the bluing salts outdoors and do the whole handle.

Whew, that was a lot of work for a rifle that shot great to begin with. Oh, and I also added a Neidner style grip cap from Midway. They are not expensive, fit like they were made for them, and dress it up a little. I'm anxious to get it out to see if I affected the accuracy. ::)

Sure does look pretty now, though. 8)

Sorry to hijack your thread :D, but I am curious to the max OAL .223 rem that will fit into the Cz 527 magazine. I have a few Cz's but not this model, so I am not familiar with its specs...

Hope that one of you guys can shed some light on this for me.

Thanks in advance

I really don't know, I only shoot 55 gr. and never had a problem with OAL. I'll have to load up a dummy shell and see. I'll get back to you on this.

Thanks Joe, that would be great. If anyone would like to know anything about the Cz 453 or 550 series, ask away!

My 223 American also had a sticky mag but is smoothed up with use.  It also was very difficult to feed the first couple of rounds out of the mag.  I took some fine grit sand paper to the feed lips and now it feeds smooth as glass.
