9.3x57 mauser

The gun store in town has several 9.3x57 husqvarna mauser 96 rifles for sale. One or two seam to be in good working order and are in good shape as far as looks go. What is a reasonable price for one? They are asking $550.
 Also who has info on this cartrige? I have heared it compares to a 358win. I bet this would make a good close range hog gun.

I have seen some of these at Cabelas. Most are in good to very good condition.  Some are made with 98 Mauser actions.  Most are of 96 actions.  I would prefer the 98 action.  I think SARCO, SAMCO, or Southern Ohio Guns are selling them from $350 to $550.  The performane of the 9.3x57 is similar to the 358 win.  I use a Ruger No.1 9.3x74R on wild hogs.  It knocks the squeal right out of them.  The 9.3x57 will do the same within 150 yds.  9.3mm cartridges are worth reloading.  I would recommend Speer's 270 gr. bullet for your hog rifle.  For reduced practice firing you can load paper-patched 357 cast lead or 9mm Makarov bullets.

I have one. Restocked in in the typical Germanic style of the time. I really like mine. It does a bit better than the .358. The price seems a little high tho. Make sure if you get one,look behind the tang and make sure it is not cracked. Also if you get one , releive the area behind the tang and glass bed the action. Mine shoots like a house afire.

I looked over to guns for sale again today. I picked out one that is in better shape than the rest, front sight hood, good blueing, no visable crack at grip. What would be a reasonable offer?

I looked up ammo at midway.com, $48  Reloading should be straght forward tho, after getting some usable brass. The 270gr speer would be a good all around bullet, if you can find some.

Dunno maybe $ 300 t0 $400. Seems to be a glut on the market at the time. You canjust get 8mil mauser brass and some 9.3 dies. Not sure if these have a tapered neck die or not. I just buy Norma brass. It's a little pricey but not too bad.

RCBS list the dies. I have used 8mm cases but have not got several hundred once fired Norma 9.3x57 brass so .............

Now when I had a .375RNE 2 1/4" (9.5x57) I brought some 8mm Lee Collet dies and bored out the colelt then made a new tapered madral which opens up the 8mm necks beautifully  . Now prices well have a look and compare tham at :-

Oh the 96 actioned ones are the Model 46  I have a 1935 vintage one

go to swedish gunboards-all the information you will need.I have both 6.5x55 and 9,3x57 based on the small ring 96 mauser-nothing wrong with them,fine accurate and very capable rifles.My 6.5X55's are for deer and the 9.3x57 is for moose[there's grizzlies around on the BC/Yukon border where I hunt]You can buy Norma ammunition for the 9,3x57,but its pretty much a handloaders cartridge-I use 286 gr Privi Partizan bullets over 46 gr of 4064.Thats probably only going  around 2000 fps ,but 286 gr of lead moving at 2000 fps is going to hit like the hammer of Thor,and I'm after ''smack'' more than speed.Detractors  say its ''only'' a 200yard  gun-but I don't SHOOT over 200 yards-half that is a long shot.Recoil is not bad at all.And-as for quality of workmanship-try and find almost ANY modern rifle that is as good as these old swedes.
