Well as you can see I have learned how to post pic's......Kinda neat.......Just wanted to show off a few bear from the great state of Maine.

My partner with a pope & young bear he took out of zone 3

I weighed this bear the next morning, as I couldn't get it out by myself. I had to cut a trail to it and take it out with a tractor. Funny thing is there is another bear in the same area that makes him look small. I won't kill him, well if I build a self bow this year it would be hard to pass up the chance, any how this bear I speak of is nicknamed "Knothead" Many have tried to put he hurt on him.........But failed.........he is a legend and truthfully I would hate to see him fall....

Pete is telling the truth, there are some BIG black bear up in northern Maine. I have seen one last year a 400 pound plus female. I did not do my part, waiting for the perfect shot and the bear walked away, I got it all on film to show anyone.. My buddy could not get a shot on a 500 pound bear last year. When a bear looks out of place in the woods, you know it is big...

Pete, if you want someone to put knot head on the ground, you know I would not mind...

If any of you black bear hunters wants a hunt of a life time, Pete is the guy to give it to you. You want and up close hunt, Wild Country Outfitters in the place. There is never a guarantee that you will get a 400 to 500 pounder, but there is a good chance of it. If not you will get a bear.

Last year on the first day, everyone in camp either had there bear or at least a chance to shoot one or pass on one, but everyone seen one on the bait. It was the same way the year before that, when I was there as well.

If Pete tells you there is a bear on the bait, you can rest assured there is a bear coming to that bait. Now the rest is up to you. Don't make any noises, or a lot of movement and whatever you do, don't bring a bunch of bug repellent that stinks to high heaven.

Very nice bears. Maine must have impressive bears I would like to see Maine one of these days. Maybe do some bear hunting now.

I have been hunting with several outfitters in Maine, Wild Country Outfitters, is the only one I will go with. A lot of the outfitters I went with were concerned with the number of hunters and nothing else. One outfitter asked if we even seen a bear to report it as a opportunity at a bear to increase his success rate.

Pete does not have to do that, he works on a smaller scale and gives 100% to each client. That is why I will never use anyone else for my black bear hunting. I have maintained contact with Pete now for 3 years and he is a down to earth guy that not only cares about you as a client, but more as a friend.

I know people probably get tired of me telling them how great Pete and his Guide services are, but you can't argue with facts.

Also, if you want to spend money, keep it in America. Nothing agents Canada, but I have hunted in Canada as well for black bear, and I am talking the the eastern reagon, and there bear are no larger or better than what you can get right here in the good old USA.

Kctibs, Where is home for you?

Northern Maine is a lot like Alaska.......I guided there a few years and up in the Ft Kent area reminds me of some of the places I guided up there. It is one of the last frontiers know to the USA. We have over 3000 miles of snowsled trails, as well as ATV trails. As for rivers well, the Allagash and St.john are just two world known rivers. Maine is one of the last places for true Brook trout fishing in the USA, we are catching 14-18" as I speak, the fishing in the spring and fall are out of this world and if you fly fish you can't beat it. I could go on and on about the place I live in, how about you........As for the bear check the fruit on the tree so to speak, we shoot some big ones and redhalkis right, we can put you in front of a bear in the 150-200 lb range, and for Maine that is Avg, what most shoot. We look for the brutes......400-600---lbs ands yes we have them........I'll post a pic of the 8x8 ft bear I took from my area, I need to put it back on the wall and have my daughter stand in for the shot.....Have a great day hope to see you in Maine soon.....Pete

Wild Country
I am from Colorado. Great elk and mule deer hunting. Our Bear hunting isn't bad either I think the state record for black bear is about 600 pounds with the average in the 200 to 450 pound range. The state outlawed baiting for spring bear about 18 years ago now. Only fall bear hunting is allowed now. So our bear population has grown a lot. On another note I did live in Alaska for three years so I know what the area might look like in Maine>

Kctibs.........I have good friends in Colorado Springs, I lived out there for a bit but didn't get the chance to hunt elk. I have an open invite to go any time and one day I might make it out there........Where in Colorado do you live?

I left when I joined the Air Force in 1980. But I have a sister that still lives there, and I visit on occasion..It has grown a lot.

I am telling you, if one of the big boys come in, and you are sitting on the ground, you will much prefer a big bore gun. I like my Marlin 45-70, but this year I will be using my Custom 378 GNR Encore. It is a 405 Winchester necked up to 375 cal.

It will make a big hole, and that is what I want. If your looking to use a handgun, 44 Mag, 45 Colt with a hot load and above.

Ron.........That will make a big hole!!!!!!......Just make sure to drop him off the bait pile, less to clean up.....No tracking when you wackum with a big bore. A bit of sewing, but that is why you pay the bucks to the taxidermist.........I'm starting to see lots of BEAR!!!!!
