why worry about what gm owes america. Its a drop in the bucket compared to what america owes china and the goverment doest seem to conserned over that. At least that money went to keep americans working. the japs would like nothing better then to see one of the big three go under. Me ill buy american i dont care if its ford chev or chrysler. Ill let the polititions worry about the loans. Bottom line is those loans shouldnt have been given in the first place and its not gm you should punish for taking them its the polititians (obama) that allowed the loans that you should be angry with. Same goes for the banks. More money went to them and less has been paid back the the car manufactures. What about the gov bail outs on people that bought houses they couldnt afford! What a joke. Its your elected officials not the people recieving this money. Believe me if a politition walked up to your front door with a check for 50 grand for you with no strings attacted id about be youd take it and run too. Sorry for the rant Dee but this country is just going to hell in a big hurry.
It's a great lookin car, and I have been a GM man for almost 50 years, BUT! I can't buy a Government Motors vehicle. I own a couple of Chrysler's but, unless they pay me my loan back, I'm stuck with Ford or foreign, if I trade again.

Lloyd of your happy with supporting GM and their Cadillac benefits that they can't afford, and I can't afford for myself, then by all means buy a Chevy. I don't condemn any who do. I just wont' do it. They Are ungrateful, self-righteous, and feel they deserve it. I find it odd that folks whom don't believe in welfare support this.BTJM

dont know about cadilacs benifits dee but i know that a assembly line worker in detroit makes a decent living. He is far from afluent though. he can probably afford a middle class home and a car and feed his family. Why should he take less then that when his bosses are flying around in private planes and living in multi million dollar homes. Its not the workers salerys that are choking the auto industry its the managment wage packages and golden parachutes and expense accounts and the just plain stupid decisisions theyve made over the years. As to benifts and wages i dont believe gms workers have much of a differnt wage package then ford or chrysler. One other thing you have to keep in mind with there wage level is the cost of living in detroit is much higher then it is in a rural area. Homes that cost a 100 grand up here in northern michigan cost 3 to 4 times more in the detroit area. Another thing is that the people in our age level could have easily went to detroit when we were young and got jobs there. Me, I wouldnt work there for twice the money there making. Everyone looks at everyone elses job and thinks there overpaid and have it made. Dee i believe you were a police officer. Now i could take the Michigan state police and critisize that package too. Many MI troppers get out of the accademy and come up north and never see a city for there whole carrier the most dangerous thing they do is pull over a drunk driver. they never get dirty and are in a heated air conditioned vehicle all day.  With voluntary ot for drunk driving patrols and seat belt partrols then can easily make 80k a year. They work for 25 years and get a full retirement. What other job lets someone that young retire with a full retirement. Our tax dollars are paying for that too.

So your sayin it's all right to bail out General Motors, and then watch them get on national TV, and lie to everyone saying they paid their loan back, when they didn't? I have owned free and clear two homes Lloyd, paid for with hard work, and sometimes working two and three part time jobs. No bailouts. I have taken a beating in the housing market here in Texas, managed to not loose my credit, carried the financing on a home because a bank couldn't, or wouldn't, and when I really couldn't afford to, and I lost my job LAST YEAR, and no one bailed me out thru any of it, and still haven't, nor have I asked anyone to. Now. if your in favor of the GM bailouts, and you seem to be, as I said, by all means Go Chevy. I myself am switching to Ford. They still have MORAL INTEGRITY, and they still make a good product, and they didn't ask for a handout, which GM is wanting another of.
If you have a problem with Michigan State troopers not being subjected to what you feel is "their fair share of danger", then petition the state to fire some of them, and when there is a major accident on a rual road, they can call an UAW employee to respond to render emergency aid, and you guys can just tolerate the drunk drivers, and drug users. I never go up there anyway so it won't affect me.
By the way Lloyd. Michigan State Patrol is a SERVICE PROVIDED BY THE STATE, and a not for profit organization that operates on a budget. General Motors is BUSINESS, that operates on PROFIT AND LOSS, and sells a PRODUCT. Know there is a difference.

point wasnt that the state police arent doing there job and arent needed it was that there benifit package is probably better then any auto worker and as far as danger i worked a job for 30 years thats considered one of the top 10 most dangerous professions and i couldnt retire after 25 years with a full pension. Sure theres police officers that live and work in very dangerous areas and earn there keep but theres also many who dont. Just like theres gm workers that earn there money and some that dont. I just get sick and tired of people who dont have a clue that blame the union workers as soon as a company gets in trouble. At first i was totaly against the bail outs but i guess I was swayed by the fact that just to many familys would be without an income and i guess they  needed to be bailed out to keep jobs in this country. But the cause of  it wasnt the union workers  it was the fault of the upper managment of the company and the unions. What should have been a condition of these bail outs was the resignation of all of the ceos and the union president and vice president. These people are smart enough to run these companys at a profit to everyone and were only conserned with the profits they themselves made and as to ford if it werent for there truck divison they would have had to be right there with the other two begging for money. theres crooks in that company too. Bottom line is i too would have liked to really see what would have happened if they wouldnt have gotten that bail out money. Id about bet somehow they would have made it anyway. I too have paid off two homes with money i earned. I dont have a flashy home but im comfortable. I have no sympathy for someone who is making 30000 a year and buys a 200k home and finds he cant pay for it. DUH! what did he think about when he bought it. I also have no sympathy for the bank that is stupid enough to lend him the money. Like you i got everything i own the hard way and right now owe nobody for anything. Peronaly i think its the ceos of these companys that should be held resonsible and i mean legaly resposible and be put in jail for these hijinks. Not given more money to piss away. I also think that credit cards should be ablolished. Theyve done more damage to this country then alchohol and drugs combined but thats for another day.

Yep! Gotta have a wrench, maybe an expedition rack, gun rack, let's see, maybe a rear retrieval bumper and tire rack. Just remember. Lie to your wife, and tell her it is imperative that the accessories HAVE TO BE THERE. ;D

This will get me close. A pair of Wolverines will get me to the spot. :)

I am in the process of making a very big move in mine and my wife's lives, and have come to the conclusion that the Jeep must go, and a pickup replace it, for reasons not yet disclosed. In search for a vehicle, I came to the conclusion that the Dodge pickup with a gas engine, was a bad choice due to lowest fuel mileage in the gas engine dept. In checking out the Ford, I found it not much better. Toyota and others, pretty good but pricey. So I just for curiosity checked out what I have driven for over 40 years, which is the GM pickups. Fuel mileage was right there where I wanted it, along with pricing, and options along with appearance.
As I stated in this thread I would never again buy another Chevy because of the bailout, although they have always been my favorite.
What I finally decided to do was do the cooking outside, as I cannot stand the smell of cooking crow. HOWEVER! I am at this time dissolving a double dose of Alka Seltzer after eating a very large crow. I bought the 2010 Silverado half ton and they are, what I have always liked, and with a red face, am glad that I did.
LESSON? NEVER SAY NEVER. You would have thought I would have learned that by now. :o ::) ;D

Dee last time i bought a new one was in 06 and i seriously thought about a dodge but just couldnt bring myself to sign the papers and ended up with another chev too. At that time the hemis were in short supply and the prices of the dodges were just to high and like you said the gas mileage was to low. A ford wasnt ever a condideration.

Well I was gonna go Ford or even Japanese but, I my entire family has been GM all my life. When I was lookin I casually made the statement that I had swore off GM because of the bailouts. The salesman informed me that GM had paid it all back. I less than casually informed him he was either clueless, are slingin you know what at the wrong guy, and that if he really wanted to deal to drop the BS, cause he and I both new the truth. He admitted he knew, and it wasn't discussed again. It was my fault for bringin it up.
I put 400 miles on it today and it was doggy for about 150 miles but, by the time I got home this evenin it was showin more power.

Congrats on the new Silverado. You don't have to explain a thing to me. You did you homework and checked them all out. You made the decision that was right for you. If I were looking today It would be a GMC Sierra. I've been basically dealing with the same GMC dealership for almost 30 yrs. Never could deal with the Chevy Dealerships around here, but I may be forced into it sooner or later. There just might be a Camaro SS in my future. Now go grab a couple venison steaks out of the freezer and a couple of beers and celebrate you new Silverado. Good luck with it and happy motoring

road in my buddys new one yesterday and one thing i noticed over mine is it sure does shift smooth. YOu hardly even feel the shifts with that new tranny. It seemed a bit doggier then mine but mine has a borla exaust a k&n intake and a reprogramed computer. I think part of the reason it felt a bit slower to was again the smooth shifts. My reprograming firmed up the shifts and i think that makes it feel like it hits harder on shift.

Mine was doggy the first 150 miles and then all of a sudden it seemed to wake up. My son (a mechanic) said the computer had not set the fuel mix and stuff when I bought it. It only had 6 miles on it when I picked it up. Makes sense cause it runs like a different truck now.

Here's mine:

73 power wagon 3/4 ton, 440 big block, 4:10 sure grips front and rear, 33x12.50 bfg's. It's never been stuck, though I've tried pretty hard a few times. It'll pass anything but a gas station.

Love those landcruisers. I make no qualms about my dislike for jap vechiles but i sure would put a landcruiser in the yard if a good deal came my way. Back when i was younger one of my buddys raced off road with one with a big block chev in it and ran another on the streat with a small block. Put a small block and a turbo 400 in one and it would take a bomb to hurt it or stop it. yours looks pretty sharp!
