I'm a big fan of the Bushnell Trophy and Dawn and Dusk scopes. Never had a problem with them and they can take the pounding you're talking about for around $200.00 or less.

Depending on which Burris scope you have, it could be worth $200 or more.  In any case it has some value and selling it should cover most or all the costs for a new Burris Fullfield II w/ Ballistic Plex scope and you could come out ahead in the deal.  You can buy new 3-9x for about $160 and a 4.5-14x for about $250 if you go to eBay and use “Buy it now” prices.

Most of my scopes are used Leupold of various types or new Burris FFII’s.  I’ve been very happy with both.  A Burris FFII 3-9x w/ BP is on my .300 WM and it is holding up just fine.  Burris has a lifetime warranty.

Sell the 50mm Scope and look for a used Leupold.

I only buy Leupolds, and used ones are very inexpensive.

My last Leupold I bought was $200.00 VX-III 3.5-10x40mm.

With the brake you don't have much recoil and your Burris has some value.  Depending on what site you get on for used scopes the price varies good deals are normally gone pretty quick and if a scope is priced too high won't sell.

I've had good luck with Leupold scopes and that what I use for my mag rifles.  The newer Leupold 3x9x40 with click adjustment they sell for around $200 friction goes for less.

I'm with the other guys, look for a used leupold.  Another option is one of the new Redfields, they are made by Leupold and have the leupy warranty.

I just bought a new Leupold and it will be my last.  Very dark and hard to adjust.  Make that almost impossible to adjust.  For the money the Nikon Prostaff 3-9X40 is impossible to beat.  I have a bunch of them.  Sell the Burris on eBay.

I've used a few Sightron 3-9x42mm, including one on a 338WM. No problems to report over a few years of field use, and the glass and image quality seems to fall between a VXII and III, but at a VX1 price.

All of my rifles wear Nikon optics. I have four ProStaff 3X9 on my hunting rifles. There are better scopes,
but not for the dollar spent. One of the four has been on two rifles and the adjustments are repeatable.

One of son's friends had a Ruger in .338WM that had a Nikon Buckmasters 3-9X scope on it.  It compared very favorably to the Burris Fullfield II 3-9X that I have on my .270WSM.  Very bright and clear and seemed to hold up fine to the recoil.  Don't know how much the rifle had been shot, though.  I think you can find them for around $200 or so.  The basic Burris Fullfield II scope is certainly adequate too, in the same price range or a little cheaper.

The best buy on a lower priced scope today is, the new Redfields!  Leupold built, and Leupold warr..., and right now they are priced very good.

My son just bought a new Redfield 3X9 with rings and mount for $233 from Cabelas. That was shipping and all too. I'm sure you could get just the scope for less than $200. As was already said Redfield is made by Leupold and they stand behind their stuff. I know for a fact that if you try to cash in on the warranty from Nikon it will cost you a $50 handling charge.

Nikon charges nothing for handling and they have a life time warranty.  We know nothing about the Redfields.  They are too new.

If you want cheaper than Leupold, I would choose Redfields since they are made by Leupold also with their stellar warranty.

Bushnell and Nikon are good, but don’t hold a candle to Leupold for me.

I have three 12ga. slug guns with three of the scopes posted and all three with at least 100+ handloaded slugs used. Burris, Nikon, and the new Redfield. All three are very good scopes and have held up well with all that recoil. Light transmission, Burris & Nikon Monarch 95%, Redfield 91% and I can't tell the difference. The pwr ring on the Redfield adjusts as easy as the Nikon. For half the price and a great warranty it will make a great hunting scope.
RIP Mike. Died on July 14th, around 2am, with his family at his side, he went peacefully to be with god.

Ok, I will bite.

What Leupold scope did you buy (model?) and was it new in box from a store?

New in the box VX-1 2-7X32 from Dick's Sporting Goods.  I may send it back to Leupold.

Yea, just thought I would see what scope he was talking about.  I have sent used Leupold’s bought off of auction sites that were hard to adjust and Leupold were unable to repair, but sent me new in box replacements at no charge.  I will continue to buy Leupold’s since they are the best in my opinion.

scopes are right around 200.00. But you get what you paid for.
